Hi Katzung,
I am in the same boat. I have given step 1 , 12 days ago. I am trying to divert my anxiety away from the resul, by starting to study for step 2. I am using the blackwell series. I have heard a lot of good things about it. I don't have Kaplan notes, where can I find them??
People advice to keep your step 1 First Aid (with all the juice one might have added) alongwith the step 2 one.
Right now I am doing Surgery. (same as Anatomy!!)

Hi, best way to manage your time (in my opinion) is to spend it on topics which you haven't been exposed to recently, or you feel weak in. Your best bet is to focus on internal medicine, along with ob/gyn and peds, which will cover a lot of questions on the actual exam. I used blueprints medicine for some things (it's a general book, not too detailed), and first aid for step 2 (which actually answered several questions on the exam for me). If you feel comfortable with what you have read, then do questions, so that you can see how you perform when on the spot, and you can figure out what weaknesses remain. Dont' forget to go over stats and ethics a little bit, as these are a few questions on the exam, but they are relatively easier than the rest, and you definitely want to get the easy questions right. Good luck with everything!

Thanks maqsur for your valuable input.
I thought In was done with biostates, (I really don't like it!!)
How about the rest of blackwell series?, What is your opinion about the rest of the books in the series. I have bought the first aid, but it looks quite intimidating as compared to the step 1 first aid. I thought that maybe I should go over the subjects once and then go thru the first aid to reinforce the items, dn't know if its a good idea.
Yes Katzung we can make a study group. Actually a friend of mine is giving her exam (step1) on the Jan.27th. Then she too will join us for the step2 prep. We plan to take it by early may.
What is your plan in this regard?

Oh yes sure FH, when u refer to blackwell series ru referrinf to blueprints or somethingelse?, pray do let me know.

i am also planning to give it around may early part or even may end, well hopefully early may, and it might help me as i am planning MRCP-2 theory in april, so if u wish i can share clinically oriented questions of mrcp with u, many of my friends just prepared for mrcp-2 and didnt even touch usmle books except psychiatry and got 99, coz the syllabus covered for mrcp-2 is similar to usmle step-2,give it a thought it might be of help.

I suggest that you have to wait until you get the step 1 result. Otherwise, you may end up with wasting your time and energy in studying step 2 while you actually failed the step 1. This is the lesson from one of my friends.

While first aid has a lot of stuff, it is concise information, so it will save you some reading if you want a quicker review. Of course, any reading that you do will be valuable; it all depends on how much depth you want to go into. All I know is that from the pages I did read in first aid (which was about 20 or pages worth of stuff, since i only focused on my weak points from the time i failed step 2), i got several answers to questions on the second time taking step 2. however, i still do not know my score yet, so i can't tell you yet whether i was successful. i really hope i am... this thursday will mark 4 weeks since taking the ck...

grin well thats right, but i guess u have an idea regarding u pass or not after finishing the exam, but getting a better score which will give u a good chance for a match is another thing well probably full fledged study will only begin after we all get our step-1 results, i pray all of us will pass.

Hope evrything works out well, if u have done the hardwork u will reap the benifits of it.

Will keep studying till results and hope to finish much of medicine during this time, if i pass good if i fail then also i would not have wasted anytime in between atleast i can concentrate on my upcoming exam, learning doesnt harm anyone. And i will prod on.

Sorry Katzung, for replying late. I actually have to update my info in the forum as my e-mails are going to a junk folder.
Anyway, to your question to blackwell series yes I mean Blueprints.
I have also bought the UCV + THE NEW ATLAS they have come up with, so everything kinds of correlates with each other. I would verymuch be interested in the clinical cases you are ready to share as my biggest drawback is that I am at home and not in a hospital or school. So thats a hugh gain to which I am extremly greatful.
The other thing is that Again I agree with the concept of moving forward and start focusing on the next step instaed of wasting time brooding over the first one, where noww, we have no control over. The other technical thing is that yes there are a few things that USMLE likes to do is to switch the qs of the steps, as I have encountered management q's on my step1. I am definitely taking step2 now irrespective of my result so that I have a broader spectrum of coverage should I have to (I Really hope I DON'T have to )retake my step 1 again.
So thanks again. I have currently read thru the surgery book, I plan to start OBGYN, (I think I am sticking to lessor intense subjects, in order to recouperate as well as move forward at the same time!!)
so keep us posted with your prep.
Thanks

Just checked the OASIS, and guess what... I PASSED!!
So now I am really ready to tackle step 2. In my waiting period I had gone thru Surgery. Starting OBGYN now. Want to celebrate a little as it was my 2nd attempt. Still don't know my scores, but at this moment I will take anything above 75. At least the step 1 nightmare is over!!

Hi guys, i am in the same boat as u guys. i just started preparing for step 2. still in the process of finding the books. planning to take it by end of april or may. few people have told me that kaplan notes is enough. so i think i'm going to start with that. anyway the idea for a study group is great. the study group discussions on the step 1 forum helped me a lot. Its just the thought of knowing that u are not alone in this, makes a lot of difference and it boosts up the morale and kinda keeps us going. good luck to all of us! Please let me know if u guys plan to start a study group. i would love to be a part of it.
Take care.

is blue prints a good alternative to kaplan?

I know you can buy kaplan off of Ebay but i'm a little cautious. Some people i know had really bad experiences with ebay... so I'm not sure if i should go ahead with that or not.

what do you guys think?
