Okay, sounds good to me. What are you studying now? what is your plan? I am planning on getting some Kaplane books to start from. And do you think we need to read all the text books? I am an Old graduate and it may take me much more time.

Nice to know you guys are preparing for step 1 too. I'm in the process of shopping books. I'm thinking to buy the books recommended by FA. One book for each subject. So far, I already got Lippincott Biochemistry and Pharmacology, BRS Pathology and physiology; some HY books. By the way, I'm looking for the Goljan audio. If any of you has it or knows where to get it, would you please send a copy to me? my email: ygenome@gmail.com Thank you very much.

hi, guys, glad to find this site to share some ideas about preparing for the board. i'm also an old IMG, graduated from med school more than 10 years ago. i'm an assistant prefessor now in a university, but my heart is still in the clinic, not just dealing with animals. i'm in los angeles area, and would like to share some thoughts with you guys, particularly the advantages and disadvantages of being a doc in the US, as i'm still not very determined to do it yet. please feel free to reply. thanks.

Hello, Mr. Chuck. Nice to meet you here. Now I am planning to participate the test to obtain the ECFMG certification. However ,there are some problems haunting in my mind ,mainly including what will be the prospect of clinical practice for an IMG even after he or she finally acquires a medical license in the US. Apparently the license will give you an opportunity to earn a desirable amount of money, but is that sufficient for a happy and worthwhile life .I mean, what is the relationship between you and your colleagues, and your patients. Are you able to feel confident when treating American patients? After all, for me, the sense of being a doc is essential. And I'm also convinced that you have thought about these things. Can you share me with your opinions? My email is trizzt@126.com. I will appreciate your reply.

hello, trizzt, and all other interested friends. you're absolutely right! being a doc usually means you'll earn a larger paycheck, but not necessarily mean you'll have a better and happier life. actually doctors in the US often work more than 60 hours a week, much more than most other jobs. and there's one of the reasons why i'm still not determined to be a doc. i have a research grant now in the university and are preparing to apply for an R01, and are being supported by other professors. if i want to stay here, i'm certain that i can be in tenure-track in 2-3 years. i've been struggling to think about my whole life recently, what's the real meaning of having a life? i've realized the so-called "American Dream", car, house, kid, job, and get along well with my colleagues at work. i realized that maybe i'm the kind of person that really cherish the process of pursuing, not those that have been realized. once i've owned or realized sth, i used to not to cherish it anymore, and start another pursuit for those even higher. sadly! but maybe that's just what i am. frankly, i'm confident in treating american patients and i'm sure i'll be a good doc. what i'm not sure is will i be happier than i am now then? i really have no idea. possibly i won't satisfy with myself then and may look sth else even higher. also, i like to be in los angeles, and not sure that i can still be here after i become a doc. well, you raised a good question and i think everyone thinking of to go for the board should carefully think about this before making up their minds. anyway, i'm not young and need to make a SMART and RIGHT decision. glad to hear from you and feel free to email me. thanks and have a good night.
