maybe surgery, anesthesiology or radiology, but you'll need some amazing LORs, great grades, and a great Step 2. It'll be very hard to achieve and you might not get the best of the choices. But its not impossible. doing research and publishing will also help your cause immensly I believe. you can pretty much forget about dermatology. Thats nearly impossible for everyone. Its hard match as is with a 260.

thanks for your encouraging words.lmbebo! I am currently a postdoc in US.I have some publications. My boss is a clinical pathologist in a good hospital.Does that help if I want to match surgery, anesthiology or radiology assuming i could get >85 in step2? Do you know some guys who have entered the residency of above programs with the similar situation as mine? God bless us.

wish I did, but I do not. I, myself, have yet to even take step 1. But I've spent enough time reading other posts that are similar to yours. Just make sure you're not selective in where you apply and what location you want. but I think you might be able to catch on somewhere.

I don't care where I could be.I just care what I could be.I just wish I could be a surgeon as I was in my home country. Am I day-dreaming?

why don't you contact the residency programs and inquire about their minimum score?

Thanks for suggestion. I know some programs require >85 or 90 on both step1/2.But I have no idea if the majority of residency programs require >85 on both step1/2.

isletman, it is way too early to decide even if you are daydreaming or not. You still got a lot to do. If you start with the "DayDreaming" thinking, you won't do well in Step 2 and you will be really daydreaming but then not now. You have to know something important here that may give you a boost. In interviews they care more about Step2 than Step1 (it is a fact from a specialist). So who can even say that you are daydreaming if you got 90+ in Step2. Just go and prepare, you are not halfway yet. Work hard, get the 90+ and it is not even far. And believe that many here will be backing you up (by information and praying), but we want to hear good news from you about Step2 as a compensation. Deal?
