Step 1 76/186, Step 2 87/215. Step 2 CS in April 2005, to match 2006 or 2007. Any those scores good for neurology residency or I am out? Thanx for any reply. :| :?

Hi. I've registered for Step 1. My plan is to take it in April 04. Where can I obtain Kaplan notes? I don't have any time to do the kaplan course, only selfstudying.

Getting a residency has been getting more and more competetive. A lot depends on your year of graduation, experience, research, US clinical experience,Recommendation letters and whether or not you need a visa.Greencard with less competetive scores keep getting residencies.
If you are an IMG, and still in your country of origin( yet to come to usa)and recently graduated, with no experience and no research publications, then ,well, you are probably OUT for a Neurology match.
May be you will do better if you apply for Family Medicine or Internal Medicine (for the sheer volume of positions available).
All the best
Take care

hi jayakrishna, thanks a lot for your reply with very useful information. I graduated 11 years ago, currently in US as postdoc doing research and observeship, published approximately 20 papers, I will get LORs from US professors. Visas will be a problem, I do not have GC. I am neurologist, fully licensed for EU countries, so that's why I am interested in Neurology spot and in IM or FP. What do you think? Happy New Year!

hi jayakrishna, sorry, I made mistake in my previous post. Should beas follows: " and not in IM or FP". I am really not interested in any other residency but Neurology. Thanks!

make sure you contact the programs before you apply..inquire specifically about minimim score requirements.

Dear Baresi,
Your credentials are amazing! So my advice would be to research all the neurology programs and call them or e-mail them to find their requirements. You probably know that Neurology has a different Match.
I wish you the best of luck. (Worst case scenario, if it doesn't work from the first shot, then there is another pathway, PGY 1 somewhere and then switch to Neurology. It would be such a waste not to go for Neurology, given your background!
Good luck to you, and DO NOT take dramatic statements from certain people as definitive, try your best, decide on your own and find out for yourself!

Dear friscan2b,

Thank you so much for your email. It gives me power to keep going on my new future even it is very hard- getting older, to start everything over etc.
But life is about a challenge not about the money or positions. "Once we got
satisfied, we would be intelectually dead...."
