what is the toxicity of lidocaine..is it atrial arrhythmia or ventricular fibrillation? any help would be great. thanks

Causes reduction of Vmax (phase 0), also shortens duration of action potential and effective refractory period of normal Purkinje fibers and myocardial cells. The shortening effect on the action potential is greater than on the effective refractory period, and thus the ERP is lenghtened relative to the action potential duration. Lidocaine has little activity on the action potential duration of atrial tissue. Can suppress conditions involving Dig. exess. Lidocaine is especially useful in treating ventricular arrythmias arising during myocardial ischemia, such as during myocardial ischemia, such as M.I. It has little effect on atrial or AV junctional arrhythmias.

Also can cause drowsiness, numbness slurred speech , convulsions, nystagmus.
Hope this helps
