Hi, I only want to ask you this question to everybody. I have passed step 1, now I'm preparing step 2CK, I'm an MD from Mexico, Guadalajara. I'm a little unsecure whether make or not to make my residency (general surgery) in US because of only this question, it's going to be very hard, leave the family, a new culture, a great change, and if I won't be able to get a good job, then why to make it. And that's one of the reasons why I want to make my residency in US, there are a lot of MDs and even specialists without job or without a good job in my country.

This is the question>

When an IMG ends a residency in US, can he get a real good job, good salary and all that?, do you know some examples, some IMGs who did it?, what about the visa, is there any problem for that (I guess you should have a H1B, but even in this way)?

Well, this is my only doubt for now, GOOD LUCK TO EVERYBODY, , AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS![/img]

Lots of waiver positions available. In 15 years of residency experience, only a handful of doctors return to their home country. You just have to do some digging during your residency to find these jobs.......

Hello Chema,
It is nice to know you are still alive.(mexican humor)
Well I will be in Guadalajara from jan 6-18.

It is possible for you to find a good paying job. I live in an area where there are graduates from UAG. some have their own practice some work in a hospital and some do both. There was a Physician(family Medicine) who had close to 10,000 patients. I could not believe it bit it was confirmed. He worked all day. He turn his practice to someone else and moved to Ohio. I guess he was home sick.

Also about adjusting to a new culture, do not worry. You will adjust.
Es hora de cortar el cordon umbilical. Te ira bien do not worry.

Sometimes is easy to say you will fine, you will adjust to the new enviroment, but is really hard, please think very well if you are planning to leave all you already got in medicine.
You can finish your speciality there while you are finishing your tests so you will have more time to decide about where to get a good job and position.
