Hi guys, I am just curious. Why nobody seems to be interested in being a doctor in Canada? I heard that hospitals in Canada also consider IMG. Is this true?

It is way harder to get a residency as an IMG in Canada. You have to take a pre-test. If you pass, you may compete for a spot in what is essentially a clerkship (final year of med school) - this itself is extremely competitive. IMG's are not eligible for the regular match. IMG's who've completely the clerkship year can then compete (very competitive again) for a residency, usually in family medicine. Most IMG's who immigrate to CAnada are advised to seek training in the US, where it is much easier.

The major exception is if your home country provides funding for training, then they welcome the IMG with open arms. Usually these IMG's are from the Middle East and and are expected to return to their home country. Canada now recognizes their shortage of physicians, and there is always talk about making it easier for IMG's to be trained in Canada. Talk is just that, though. If you think US bureaucracy is bad, Canada is much worse.

wow, sounds scary! No wonder the only example I heard was a girl who finished 1 year resident in US first. Maybe she persuaded them to take it as the clinical experiences.
