Hey,

this might be a simple question and i know i learned this somewhere during the basic science but can't seem to located it exactly...

anyway, i just wanted to know how to identify it if its virus/bact/fungi/parasite problem...

i think there is an increase in Eosinophils if its parasites

i think there is an increase in Neutrophils if its bacteria

i think there is an increase in Lymphocytes if its a virus (is this B/T cells??)

anyway, is there anything like this for fungii...

also, i know this is not a written rule becasue i'm sure there are many exceptions to this... but is this generally the case...

thanx for ur help!

Eos.. parasites, fungi, allergy
Neuts...bact, fungi, Ca- leukemia
Lymphs...viruses T-8 cells, mycobact T-4, mycoplasma, ureapzm, Ca-lymphoma
Basos...allergy, spec antigen
Ertros... COPD, BM Ca
Not a law, just some rulles of thumb... variations possible and often true.

If you have someone with a low WBC count, due to being immunocompromised/HIV/cancer, etc. then a lot of this goes out the window.

When you have microorganisms involved, there are no set "rules." That is what makes my job so interesting....:-)
