first aid says ketone bodies are formed from fatty acids and aminoacids in muscle and brain. How are they produced fron aminoacid, and how in brain?

  #2

Ketogenic amino acids--- Leucine( specifically)

others--

Isoleucine, Lysine,phenylalanine,tyrosine,tryptophan

leucine a nd lysine r ketogenic amino acids

whereas threonine, tryptophan, tyrosine, isoleucine and phenyalanine r glucogenic and ketogenic! all others r purely glucogenic.

  #4

first of all ketone acids are produced in liver only! and used by other tissues( muscle, brain etc for energy) except the liver which lack thiophorase.
thru beta oxidation there is an increased amount of acetyl CoA which is further used thru condesation in generating HMG CoA and then the ketone bodies.
The Ketogenetic aminoacids will form either acetylCoA (isoleucine, leucine) or acetoacetate(leucine, lysine, tryptophan, tyrosine, phenylalanine), compounds which are only ketogenetic.L K are yes the only purely ketogenic

  #5

ketone bodies, excuse me smiling face

  #6

the enzyme that begins that ketone pathway is HMG COA "lyase"
