not any better than being a green card holder, I would think. They use it as a guide that you probably are more culturally in tune to the US than someone else.

YES!! some programs don't sponsor visas...first advantage.. some programs sponsor visas, but would prefer avoiding that hassle..that's #2.. lastly, since you're a US citizen, PD's will know that you've been exposed to the american culture and will have less(maybe none at all) trouble interacting with patients and and staff.

That may have been true years ago, but we have been seeing an increase in the number of IMGs that were raised here as children and then returned to their parents countries for school and medical school. A couple have been hired and let's just say that we learned that just having a citizenship doesn't mean that you have been exposed to the US culture. It's not a guarantee any more.
