for anyone (like myself) who took their step II CS in Houston, as it seems they won't be releasing the scores until just before the rank order deadline (if then), I think you should take any prematch offers that you have. I doubt a program would rank you if they didn't know you were ECFMG certified. As they keep delaying the test release, I have my doubts whether the results will be out my the rank order deadline anyway.

Well looks like things are going to worsen further. They have further delayed LA to early jan and urs houston to end january.

only god can save us now smiling face

I am facing the same prob here. whether to ask for a prematch from an average program or risk with match. Delay in cs results have further complicated the situation.

I am preparing myself for J1 now sad

Hi everyone, can anyone accept prematch offer before being certified...Because I am in the same situation and still waiting for my cs result. But what happens if someone accepts a prematch offer before getting result and fails the exams after that.
Please if anyone knows anything, please reply...

yes you can accept. If you fail, well, you have until residency starts to pass. I don't think the program can withdraw your acceptance, but they might, esp if your results are out before the rank order deadline and they think they can fill the spot in the match.

If you can't pass in time to get your ECFMG certification and licensure, then the program can withdraw its offer.

Read your contracts carefully - built into the language is probably a clause stating that you will have all your tests and licnesure on time to start July 1. If you fail an exam, and you can't retake it in time to get your ECFMG certification, your visa if necessary and your license, a program CAN revoke its prematch.

It doesn't mean that it will; many programs may be willing to wait for you, but don't count on it. If all their residents are IMGs and everyone is going to be late, they won't be able to wait for you.

Good luck - fingers crossed that you all will pass......

Hey BBB,
So would your program rank someone who has taken step II CS, but it awaiting results and therefore ECFMG certification? I know the NRMP computer will kick you out of the system if not certified by the rank order deadline. But would a program even bother to rank you if you were not certified when they sit down to rank their applicants?

  #8

yes, we have ranked persons waiting for their ECFMG certification.

hey please help me understand this

retroviridae says if you are not ecfmg certified by the rank order list deadline you are out of the match i.e. nrmp excludes you from the match...

now if that is true what is the point in a program including you in its rank order list....and why would a program rank you if you are already out of the match...

thanks

You need to be certified by the time of match and not by the time of ROL.
This you gives you around one month of extra time.

According to the NRMP:

If we have not received ECFMG confirmation, NRMP will withdraw you from the match shortly after the rank order list deadline and your rank order list will NOT be used in the match. You will receive an e-mail notification from the NRMP if this occurs.

The ROL deadline is 2/23/05. So, you must be certified before they start the computer algorithim, NOT by the match date.

Now as to kg_doc, programs could rank you because their deadline to rank you is the same as your deadline to rank programs, i.e. 2/23 So most programs probably don't wait until the last minute to rank people. So they would have devised their ROL before the deadline, i.e. they would not know if you were out of the match by the time they submitted their ROL.

hey retro, quick question.. i noticed in ERAS TRACK APPLICATION that a program downloaded my photo, but i haven't received invitation for interview. I thought they could only downloaded after offering interview. Does this mean I should expect an invitation?

  #13

no, it says that no matter what. According to BBB, even though it says that they have downloaded it, they can only see it when they invite you for an interview.

  #14

ok, thanks for your reply..

  #15

now i'm confused...according to ECFMG website, programs may only download photo when offering interview.. :!:

  #16

Hi,
the programs download, but cannot open the picture before they confirmed an interview appointment. ..
good luck
