Hi! I have talked with a lot of different program coordinators in surgery. They are telling me that they get so many applications for only a few positions that foreigners will not get a chance for interviewing. This is only because they do not know our schools and we often cannot provide transcripts with complete info (I came from a pass/fail system) or a Deans letter. My scores are great 93/99 but that does not matter very much when I do not have a competetive background. My situation is that I have finally gotten an interview slot for a categorical surgery position in a small place out in the outback. The hospital is fairly big with a kidney transplant unit and a level 1 trauma status, fellowships in vascular surgery etc but the "town" has only a couple of thousand inhabitants. The hospital is university affiliated and so has medical students. There are decent research possibilities. It is not the top hospital in the region, but it seems pretty OK except for its location. If I get the chance I will definately go for the job!

I just read my posting once again.. I forgot to say that I am extremely happy and thrilled about the interview! And a pretty good hospital in my vocabulary means that I feel it is a pretty darned good possibility!
