First of all, the OASIS trick is pretty misleading. I took my CK 4 weeks ago tomorrow and last tuesday I was allowed to re-register for the step. I nearly died and did not check the website until I got back home yesterday. It was updated and this time I was not allowed to register. Which to believe??? Luckily my scores came in the next day: 230/93
I was overwhelmed. I guess my point is to hang in there and wait for the score to arrive.
My next question is, is this a good score?? I am a U.S. citizen and IMG. I am looking to apply to surgical residencies. Good chance? Fat chance?
Please let me know

Its a great score, and congrats!
I say you def have a chance at surgery...My husband is an American IMG as well and got a surgery residency. I would say just be smart about where you apply.

alejandlu,
when you were checking your scores trhu oasis trick did it allow you to reapply for the step you already took? I had an exam on Nov. 23 would it be okay to check my score now or wait until my file has been updated?
It says in my file that I took my exam on Oct 23 but I took it onNov 23 bec I rescheduled it. So would it say if my score has been mailed/reported or if I failed it would aloow me to reregister for that step2? Pls help as I am getting too anxious w/ my result..

Since you rescheduled with your testing center and not through ECFMG, OASIS wont update your test date till it releases your score.
I know how anxious you must be to get your scores, but its still too soon. OASIS is typically updated on the thursday THREE weeks after you take your exam....check next thursday, and Im sure you'll have great news to share with the rest of us.

First of all.....relax. I know how you're feeling and it can get pretty stressful. What happened to me was that I tried the trick exactly 3 weeks after I had taken the exam and it let me re-register for the CK. Needless to say I nearly died because in theory, if it lets you re-apply, then you have not passed that portion of the USMLE. However, 3 days later, my score came in the mail and when I logged onto the ECFMG site, it was updated and it read the correct date of my examination as well as the day the score was reported.
I would not bother trying the trick until around the 14th or so.....but beware of the false re-application for a portion you have already taken. If it allows you to re-register now, I really don't know what to say.
Remember: HANG IN THERE!!! Wait for the score to arrive in the mail. The paper does not lie!

what about in my situation:
Is the oasis trick really accurate?
Has there been any situation where someone noticed that their profile was updated, tried the oasis trick, suggested they failed (aka let them reapply), but when they got their results in the mail... they passed?!?
anyone in that situation?!?

To be quite honest with you, I was not able to reapply once it was posted on the website that my score had been reported. In other words, I received the actual score in the mail approximately 5 days after the trick had fooled me, and at that time, was unable to reapply for the step. Hope this helps. Good luck!

If you were unable to reapply after it was posted that your score has been sent, then the trick DID WORK!!
It would have fooled you if it allowed you to reapply after it was posted that your score has been sent, and then received a passing score in the mail 5 days later..
is that it? misinterpretation? would appreciate your help. thanks

You may have a point. I remember that when I checked it right at 3 weeks or so, it did let me reapply....but for me it was the other way around. I did not check it again for another 4-5 days because I was pretty bummed out and at that time was out of the country. When I arrived, the score was in the mail and only after seeing my score did I recheck the ECFMG site and at that time it did not let me reapply....so, I'm not exactly sure where in the sequence you are in, but if you live in the U.S., it should be arriving to you shortly. I would say no more than 4 days after the posted date on the website.

First of all big congrats on such a wonderful score. I am definitely sticking with not going to the OASIS for that trick. I would rather wait the extra 4 days then be seen in an ER (as a patient!!)
Actually the OASIS trick did and does work, the problem is they are now updating the web on the day they actually send out the scores. They used to update them earlier before, so the oasis trick used to make sense. (I have taken this step last year too,and got to know my fate thru oasis a week earlier). But for some reason, they are not allowing that big gap in between now, as I have checked, they haven't even updated my exam date yet. Its been 2 weeks already (people used to get to know something in 2-3 weeks). By 4the week we probably have the result in our hands especially in the U.S.
So thanks for your posting, it just helped me decide to steer clear away from the Oasis thrick and be patient and pray in the meantime.
