two xx would predispose someone to secrete more estrogen than an xy??? (i know that do to polar bodies, it doesn't make much sense; but at least it's a good way to remember it) i just looked it up in robbins 6th edition and it says estrogen is increased by an unknown mechanism...

in klinefelters syndrome you have atrophy of seminal vesicles --> no spermatogenesis & no Sertoli cells --> no inhibin to feedback for FSH --> leydig cell hyperplasia . FSH increases aromatase synthesis in Leydig cells --> increased conversion of androgenes into estrogen --> hyperestrinism

although that makes sense, why didn't robbins just say so instead of saying it's unknown... and fsh affects sertoli cells, not leydig... which secrete testosterone under the influence of lh. I don't know how and when aromatase come into play in males, but i would guess if it had to happen it would happen in sertoli cells not lydig (the leydig/theca as sertoli/granulosa analogy).. Another possible idea is an exception to lyons hypothesis.. which is that some parts of the polar body are indeed active in some cells... but i'd still stick with "unknown"...
