hi kiran, am not really sure but am planning to just read it & see w/c ones are worth memorizing. The Kaplan anatomy lecturer said it's not impt. , most high yield are the cutaneous & vascular innervations (limbs). Also he emphasized on the exceptions instead of memorizing every single thing..more of gen. principles..I'll just be re reading & spend more time per lecturer's recommendation w/ all subjects & do lots of q's later.. Hope it would help me w/ this approach. As you've read fr others. Kaplan notes, FA + goljan are the key resources.. Hope I helped you..

Hi everyone Thnks for your encouragement, Kerochi. It seems like the team is posting more now. Yeah, I'm still at med school. I've done two years of basic sciences and one year of clinicals, but this year we're doing another degree in the middle (a BSc), so this is the only real medical studying I'm doing till July. Reading a few sources I was recommended to take Step 1 now, as all the basic science should (theoretically) be fresh. I'm stilll not used to applying this knowledge to a clinical context, and that's what I find hardest. Yong, thanks a lot for your valuable advice. I do that a lot when I feel tired, just reading off the page without thinking about what I'm reading and trying to remember it. Hey team, have you heard of the PQRST study method? Preview  Question  Read  Self-recitation  Test Before reading a chapter of Kaplan, say, have a quick look through the headings and diagrams to get an idea of the important points. Next make up a few questions that you want to have answered after reading the text. Then read it, trying to answer those questions. See if you can recite what you've just read, and finally test yourself later to check that you've retained the info. Hopefully that will help! Also, I've noticed that loads of questions describe a patient's details (age, gender, ethnicity, etc) before giving information about their signs and symptoms. So maybe it would be useful to try to think of the characteristics of a typical patient presentating with a particular disease when you're studying it. Byeee Moc

Good morning team Today will be a slow day for me. Our first exam is exactly a week away from now, so all my effort is going into that at the moment. I will try and read (and hopefully retain) a few pages from FA though. What's everyone else's plan for today? Good luck with the neuroanatomy, sis! Byee Moc

A 42-year-old man previously diagnosed with kidney stones complains of gnawing, burning epigastric pain. On questioning, he also notes moderate to severe diarrhea. Measurement of the patient's basal gastric acid output reveals that it is markedly elevated. These symptoms are likely the result of which of the following neoplastic syndromes? A. Familial polyposis coli B. MEN I C. MEN IIA D. MEN IIB E. MEN III

Hi guys, Here where am I . I have done 3 times reading. It seems like there are not too many retentions which is expecting to stay in my memory. Whenver I am doing excercise, same toptic but different way to ask caught me. I guess I don't understand quite well but it looks very simular to me just not clear. Right now my reading speed is slow because I have to jump back and forth and try to make all connections together. It takes longer than I read before. My questions is how I should do in order to gain more retention and understand in depth except just simple repetition. Or ang good suggestions? Thanks ahead.

hey zhouyoung...i know 1 thing that really helps me retain info is writing it out...read a paragraph, then summarize it in your head and finally write it down on paper from memory...then go back and reread the paragraph to fill in anything you missed...it really works for me, time consuming as it is...and finally when you have written out your entire selected reading, read the entire thing 1 time out loud...with that, it should stick pretty well, it does for me at least...after that you just have to skim the notes every few days to keep it fresh...happy studying!

Hi yong, In answer to your q's I think you described Zollinger Ellison syndrome w/c is caused by gastrin producing tumor, gastrinoma causing sever PUD. 20% of these tumors are associated w/ MEN 1 (3 P's: parathyroid, pit. & pancreatic tumors) 60% are malignant.. Wow you are done w/ 3rd reading!!! That's great. Now you have to carefully revise all the high yield from what you have read & do lots of Q's. Have you done the Q book or Q bank? The valuemd q's seems to be easy so don't rely mich...

They all have parathyroid and pheochromocytoma ? I am sure they have a clear line clinically. But I don't have that much clinical experience. :?: :?: :?: Help

hi zhouyong dont worry....my advice is just scibble down on a paper whenever you find an imporatnat point.and when you are doing Q bank....mark the important points in the corressponding notes of kaplan or FA.and also look up into FA regarding the same topic in another subject....so that you will have a better corelation and also you can retain much. and while reading....ask yourself some Q about what you have read.....at the end of the daykeep an hr for revising all the stuff you have gone thru out the day.... hope i helped you.

MEN III Hi zhouyong, In this Q stem,H/O kidney stones is suggestive of diagnosis( MEN-I )..because kidney stones association is only with MEN-I .....But, as u asked clinical differentiating features...I am writing few... MEN 1 – Hyperparathyroidism ( diffuse hyperplasia or multiple adenomas are found more frequently )… in 90% of affected pts.,Asymptomatic hypercalcemia ( most common manifestations),nephrolithiasis or nephrocalcinosis ( in 25% pts) MEN 11 A- Almost all pt will have medullary carcinoma of thyroid.Pheochromocytoma( in 50%)àIt is benign & usually produce epinephrine and maybe it is the only early abnormality in the course of the dis.,Paroxysmal hypertension. MEN 11B ( now MEN III )- Presence of mucosal neuromas in almost all affected patients. The neuroma appear as small glistening bumps about the lips, tongue & buccal mucosa.Thickend eyelids & diffusely hypertrophied lips are characteristic. Thanks.. Hi KEROCHI, You & your NEW STEP 1 TEAM is really doing great...but as u said...NEW STEP 1 TEAM :| .....still I hope ,old step1 team memebres are also invited  ...just kidding...I know we all r here to support each other in everyway.... So,we are starting PHYSIOLOGY discussion from today...Your contribution is appreciated in advance.. See u in Chat Room....at 12.30pm... Happy Study to all of u.. niti

all i've been doing is kaplan so far for anatomy, histo, embryo and neuro...and of course first aid...i think kaplan is really good in these areas in terms of hitting what is important and relevant to the exam...happy studying
