Ascaris infection is spread by ingestion of eggs fr. contaminated soil or food. Larvae are then released in the intestine & penetrate intestinal blood vessels to the lung to the alveolar capillaries. During migration, Ascaris can cause pneumonia w/ eosinophilia. Pts. would manifest bronchial constriction---wheezing bec. of exposure to the allergen. Has something to do w/immediate IgE release caused by larva infection to the lungs.

Hope this helps you a little..

  #640

hi hippocampus, how u doin? Work hard... Hope everything's alright w/ your studies.

Well, once again folks, let's give thanks to God for all our blessings. Since I started my review there has been 2 major catastrophe, hurricane from Asia now , hurricane katrina. let us take a moment & reflect on our blessings & at the same time pray for all the families who have lost their llivelihood & esp their loved ones....

So i don't want to see any more person here complaining abt their low scores when in fact they passed this test.

  #641

hello every one

i just started with my step 1 and want to give it in dec-jan not sure if i can do it as i am img on f1 visa and have the f1 duties too to fulfill

is 4 months sufficient?any advice?

the unfortunate thing is i failed step 1 twice and i need motivation and encouragement to start off and get into real pace and write the exam with confidence

so can i join ur club?plz

  #642

Welcome to the world of support & encouragement from our group. Don't fret if you failed the step in the past. the most impt. thing is your courage & your motivation to study again. Sure 4 mos. is enough. if you have all the materials already then Start ASAP as there are a lot of things to learn.

I'm sure you have read a lot of exam exp. advice already from the forum so choose one that suits your style then just add other's advices as you go along.

I'm still reviewing up to the last part. i'm the last man standing..here . I've been scared but can't stay like that so got to face reality.

Hope your review goes well... we're all here for support...

Kaplan is my only source for immuno.. Any suggestion on what to read more? i still have time to spend a day w/ it.

I think revision is really very impt. in our studies. Trying to correlate all hy facts helps a lot. i hope to iprove my nbme form 2 as I did poorly in the other 1. Would you suggest doing the form 1 again? hope to get a response.. Thanx.

Have a productive long wkend...

  #644

Hey buddy Kerochi, Long time! I passed step one with 214/86 and though it is lower than I had aimed for or expected, you wont hear me complaining! I am indeed deeply grateful for all my blessings and I count all my friends from the forum as my blessings too.

Try High yield immunology, if you are really looking for more sources for immuno, Kerochi. The chapters on margination, rolling, diapedesis etc is especially nice for understanding, knowing the definitions and sequence of events in order. I am already starting to forget stuff! I had not touched my books since I gave the exam on August 4th Got my result on September 3rd. Must start Step two prep one of these good days!

I said to myself , Once again I'll be brave to take my exam in 28 days. Exactly 28 days.

My plan for this week:

Revise Ana, Neuroana & Immuno from Qbank. Those were my weakest point at this time.

I will listen to kaplan Immuno one more time w/ the notes.

I will do 2 sets of Qbook q's again today.

I WILL do this schedule & Will finish these by Saturday 12N.

So help me GOD.

  #647

Hey guys , i am looking for some input here. Here's what i have done till now....i am studying for 2 months off n on...just last month i started kaplan lectures along with notes...(prior to that i just read lecture notes )and i am abt to finish my first reading (except beh sciences n ana). So i have to listen to kaplan lectures for path physio on my second reading. my problem now is when i finish a chapter of any subject and do MCQ i usually score around 70-75...but when at the end of any subject i try to take an assessment test from e.g usmle Q book..i am scoring 55%....Whats wrong.....Am i doing something wrong...is my approach wrong....About the way i am studying...i listen to lectures then i read it from the notes n then i take that end chapter tests....And Nbme released questions...i get around 75% right but later like after 2-3 week....i dont retain that much...how can i counter this problem...anyone else going thru this too...i dont have much time left...i have to take the test 1 st week of dec...plz suggest something...anything i'm desperate...How to memorize long term....and for some stupid reason i havent read FA as of yet what should i do...

  #648

For Kerochi, Thankyou for helping me...And yes kaplan immuno is very good...So goodluck...

  #649

hi sarika,

Your scores looks very promising to me. Just continue reading.. studying everyday & start FA NOW & you will raise your score more high. Do Qbank Now also.. STAY focused & positive...And i'm talking to myself too! GL
