hi all. hope the studying is going swell. still reading as usual. gotta take that nbme. hey kerochi...what do think about just taking nmbe 1 to id weak areas and then nmbe2 for gauging actual score? i think i'm being too ocd about it.. maybe i should just take the nmbe 1 right now. still deciding, cause realistically, if i wait until i feel super ready for nbme 1, i probably won't take nbme 2 b/f actual exam. just an idea

hi hippocampus, it would be a good idea to do both nbme . So if you got time let's do both. I'll do the part one this week. Quite nervous. i am still going back & forth w/ my q's/ review notes & books but mainly Qbank & FA for the next 3 weeks. Well I am trying my best guys. I don't want to disappoint myself & my family & all of you guys. You know what I personnaly found out? at times when I am answering q's & noticed that my brain is wandering & even the easy q's & i know the answer seems to get hard & i don't know the answer( am I making sense?) I stop & do some chores or do one of my favorite hobby( gardening) for at least 30 mins. then go back to studying again.. it HEELPPSS!! hurray .. feels refreshed to do q's again. in other words.. take a short break! have agreat day evry1!

this is very bad... a bad thing for me. i think I am doing something wrong or did I take NBME too soon. I just did it today & my score is horrible!! Accrgd to lvspro's table i failed & i feel so bad. What i did right after was i called ECFMG & see if I could still move my eligibility for another 3 mos. Lady said it's still ok. Supposedly ending by end of this mo & I was suppose to take my test before then. I may have forgotten what I read & did not score high enough for my qbank. Gee I need some fatal studying here... I don't want to spend the rest of my life studying for this step so i am trying really hard but I guess i am not doing enough. I did form 1 of my nbme & i noticed most of my q's were molecular bio & genetics. Do they change the pool of q's here or same for everyone who takes it?? Well i failed that so it's a move for me to study harder.. God help me.. I admire a lot of people here who's been scoring so high!!! Me i am trying soo hard...Others who passed fret about their score(that makes me mad!!) whereas people like me really study hard... but seems like nothing's retained. helllppp.

Nobody could help yourself but yourself so I decided to take another 2 mos. of study to revise.. fully revise all that I have read. I believe that with more patience & hard work i can do this exam. i don't have time to be depressed so i am getting up. i prayed hard & i believe I am working hard so I believe I will pass this exam. i am just thankful to all you guys out there bec just by reading the exam posts gives me additional courage not to be defeated. I can't say this would be our last test bec. i have seen lots of friends who are doing residency & still taking exams or reading everyday. Our course is not a one time deal it's a long term commitment.. to reading & learning. So for today i will continue my QBANK CD, finish up kaplan General principles notes & will read & continue doing my mnemonics (crazy ones) fr. First Aid. ACT OF HOPE: "O my GOD, relying on your almighty power, infinite mercy, I hope to obtain pardon for my sins, the help of your grace, & life everlasting through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer".

Hey Kerochi don't lose heart. I know how frustrating it can be. The bottomline is to pass and get a good score, right? No matter what it takes or how much time. I have not been posting in the last couple of weeks because I am frustrated with myself and scared of the exam. But believe in yourself and believe in God. It will happen. And one of these days you will be done with this test and will look back and be proud of yourself. GL with ur stuff.

hey drworm, Thanks! i thought nobody would ever care to write what they were thinking about. I appreciate your support. Yeh it really is scary not to pass this test esp. if there's been a lot of hardships & all sort of life problems that came along the way. Well , let's do our best. GL to you too!!

hi kerochi. i wouldn't worry about the nmbe1. just keep studying and take nmbe2. at least now you can identify your weak areas and use nbme 2 closer to your actual exam. i knew someone who didn't do well on nbme1 and rocked step 1. just keep going forward with questions. just a suggestion- i found that speeding up my reading helps a lot because you don't leave too much time between subjects, ie forget stuff. if you're slower on the reading, maybe reading a little bit from each subject each day might help, because in the end you have to integrate and it may help to reinforce multiple subjects regularly, not just from one subj. everyone learns differently, so this may/may not work for you. either way just keep at it. don't beat yourself for your score. take a break if you're not motivated. do something fun, so you don't feel like this is a burden. gl man.

hi ya'll, i am a silent member here trying to take step 1 in late nov early dec. i am an old graduate (2001)..a wife and a mother of 1 yr old...and trying to study. its been only 45 days of studying and people r saying that blood has been sucked outta my body ....i started with physio patho& immuno and now i was supposed to do microbiology in 3 days...Boy did micro bugs slapped me on my face for that insult!....three days was i kiddin' myself....i not only failed doing it in 3 days frm MMRS but also lost the tempo....now i wasted one whole week on it and its still right there ...looking me into my eyes saying...."what were u thinking?" so i am moving on. now i will start pharma tomorrow hopefully and try to come back to it laters (or mayb 30 min here n there evry day so that mayb something goes into my thick head)....one thing i learnt...never try to squeeze or rush things.....u not only fail to meet impossible goals u bring down your moral and waste even more time.....so from now on...i am going to give very subject its due respect. One thing more, is it just me or did u guys also did not like micro frm kaplan notes...thats why i am doing mmrs....My original game plan was to do everything frm kaplan notes and fa and only path physio frm brs n goljan...now i am reading MMRS instead of kaplan

hey hippocampus, Thanks for the advice too. Still reading hard but am trying to do it efficiently. Ill be ready when Im ready. A family member's quite upset when I r/s my exam again but hey it's me who's going to take the exam. i am trying here. Hi sarika, That's what I used for Micro. per advise here in the forum. I can't understand the guy fr Kaplan lecture so i shifted to MMRS. Honestly.. w/ that book to save time all you have to do is to go over the graphs/table every after chapter. That's the summary for the whole chapter. The only thing is the prints are sooo small. Study the table plus the FA & you'll be ablt to answer q's in Qbank effectively. That's my observation. well guys my Qbank score is improving.. a little motivation for me. i did not finish my subscription before & I just realized that I hav the Qbank CD w/c exactly the same as the qbank. i followed lisaM's advise to scroll down carefully not to see the answers yet before reading the q's So that's what i have been doing... I will still be finishing 100Q's tonight. I did 100q's the whole day plus the Kaplan notes . Slowly but will soon be more confident . GL to you all.... welcome sarika..

I had a question regarding the NBME tests. is there someplace where you can get the questions and the answer key to it? I mean how do I tell whihc ones I got wrong and what the right one should have been?

hey, how are all guys doing? Hope the wkend went well when it comes to your review. It was a productive one for me & I hope to do well w/ my qbank. Did not touch FA for 2days.. What's your thought on doing Qbank over & over? This time it's more of review from the explanations , 1 Q = 5 infos that we can learn right? So we just hope all of these infos sticks. GL to every1....

It's freaky huh hippocampus. Well that happened to me but keep on revising & keep on doing your qbank. Study the explanations very well. You'll be amazed how your score will go higher. I got 82% recently & I was soo excited but I thnk I should not get something like that or I get too confident & I don't want it. It's better to get a lower score during the process of review , that way you will be more encouraged to read more, learn more & study more then at the end you'll be getting high scores constantly, you'll be more confident then you're ready right!!! RIGHT. So do not be disappointed. hey we're all studying here & working really hard so no where else to go but SUCCESS!! GL & hey every1..

hey cyra, how u doin? Yup.. studying is already a part of our lives no matter what so let's all be good at it. Qbank scores?? I have read fr the kaplan forum & the expert said you have to get b/n 60-65% to pass so it was alarming to see myself scoring b/n 50-56% at first. Anyway.. before i say something negative 'ill turn it in to a positive motivation for me. for us/ Just continue reading, swallow, digest, absorb all our review materials esp FA guys... GL cyra & to you all. I think coffee is working for me tonight.. it's almost 1am & i'm still up..

hi all. thanks kerochi for the advice. i feel better now about my qbank. i did 3 more 50q sets and i'm back in the 60/70s again. it's really scary though to think that a bad day could plummet scores. i better give lots of cushion in case i get nervous during the real exam and start blocking. thanks again. i have a question from qbank that confused me. here it is: with ascaris lumbricoides, a kid gets allergic type symptoms. the question asked which type of hypersensitivity. answer was type I involving eosinphils. i am a little confused because goljan said that eosinophils are involved in both type I and II hypersensitivity and that in type I, eosinophils helped decreased inflamm mediators via histaminase and arysulfatase, while in type II hypersensitivity eosinophils secrete major basic protein to kill worms....so since ascaris is a helminth, should this be a type II hypersensitivity? help i'm confused. gl every1.
