My hypothesis- If the overall metabolism(BMR) is inhibited, the functioning of the parasympathetic nervous system will be diminished. comments

I like Mjl1717's way of thinking.
I agree.

i think that it has to do with the amount of b-receptors in GI

consider that T4 increases synthesis of b receptors. that why you see symptoms like tahycardia &palpitations in hyperthyroidism

Mars -Aris is it not that GI glands are innervated by parasympathetic?

I was waiting for someone to say that! /The way I remember it is "Housekeeping-Parasympathetic"

of course parasympathetic increases GI motility & secretions

thinking more about the particular mechanism :

T4 acts intracellular in the nucleus (like steroid hormones) might interfere with synthesis/transcription of pumps responsible for Na exchange

BTW this is an open discussion (i am still looking for the answer) and what i write is some thoughts...
