This is why everyone should use universal precautions in laboratories and environmental conditions where you may be exposed to aerosols. I personally thought HBV could survive longer than one week in dried blood or fluid. Anyone have a source for the one week answer? We set ALL specimens up in a bio-safety cabinet to cut down exposure to aerosols, as we deal with hundreds of biological specimens a day. We also always wear gloves while doing culture setup and wear fluid-proof gowns over our clothes.

I work as a physician assistant and recently I had to take an infection control and barrier precaution course that was mandated by New York State Dept of Health and the group with initials JIOSH I believe(similar to OSHA) Remember its viable not for a week but "at least 1 week" according to the online course I just took.
