Why Folate & Vit B12 deficiency cause low transketolase activity ?

  #2

transketolase is an important enzyme for HMP shunt.--> HMP shunt is useful for Ribose 5P synthesis and therefore for nucleotides -->

little synthesis of DNA in folate & Vit B12 def --> plenty of ribose 5P (unused) that leads to decreased transketolase activity

Mars I like the reasoning:
But I also reflexively think of low transketolase activity with Thiamine
(B1) deficiency.

Thiamine is a cofactors of transketolase, so in thiamine deficiency will decrease the transketolase activity

In Vit B12 & Folate deficiency there is a low transketolase activity ( I see in Step 1 simulated question, but they don't tell the mechanism )
