Hello everybody,
I need to tell you all a very important thiNG. I am a female IMG ,got married and was out of clinical touch for 3 years, got just one interview last week/
The PD was very good , I asked her why are some of the hospitals not sponsoring any kind of visas and they write it so boldly on their website that only plp who are citizens and Permanent residents apply, no visa will be sponsered. You know what she said-- she said that it it highly unethical and it is because they are racist. She said that this all is increasing day by day because of lack of unity amonst the IMGs, She said we dont have any union or organisation where we can lay down certain set of rules. She said if we had an organisation we could have applied everywhere and would have been selected according to our potential and not according to our race or visa status. Guys you tell me what to you think about this???????.Do you think this can work, I have been thinking for a week now but I just dont know how can we all get together. Who is going to entertain us???/Plz put your inputs here.

Hey All! I am a resident in Internal Medicine at one the hospitals in US and an IMG to begin with. I can understand the frustration agony and period of uncertainty that one goes through while in the process of application to get a residency spot. Regarding the visa issue as mentioned on certain websites, A program has to spend in excess of $5000.00 per resident to have the visa processed through the immigration services. Most programs would have to shell that money out their budget to do so, and with the ongoing cut backs, there are a few who are willing to do so. On top of that, considering the amount of time
(more than 6 months for H-1), and limitations with the revised visa processing and quota of visas being issued nowadays for residency and fellowship positions, this tends to takes a toll on the hospital/program. Thus unless a program offers a pre-match for its positions, the paperwork and visa may not be ready by the time the academic year commences.
