26-year-old white female presents to the outpatient clinic complaining of an expanding rash. Her social history is significant for recent backpacking along the Appalachian Trail in New England. The rash is localized to her upper back, and it appears erythematous and circular with central clearing. The patient recalls no tick bite. Doxycycline is initiated. Yes, it's Lyme's disease caused by Borrelia Burgdorferi - there is a very characteristic rash. Patient probably just didn't notice the tick bite.
