BBB, I would greatly appreciate your input. I wonder what is the best approach when you are offered prematch and that is not among your most preffered programs. I've been struggling with this since I've been offered the prematch (they agreed to wait for a few weeks to hear my answer). I have more inteviews to come, a couple that I am really interested in, and, although I am also aware that there are many people that are more competitive than me, I would still like to go to the interviews and try my chance. The more competitve programs I will interview in don't usually offer prematch anyway and I would not like to risk to be left out of the match. I really cannot make up my mind about what is better for me. Can anybody, with more experience, give an opinion? Thank you. ::very_confused::

Take the prematch and live with it (can you handle the program for three years, can you live in the area? Can you get a fellowship from this program - lots of questions to ask yourself). Cancel the rest of your interviews. 2. Don't take the offer, ask them to rank you competitively, and continue your interviews. This has to be your decision, my friend. No one can make it for you.

does this program only use prematch to fill its spots? If they do fill some through the match, then they would probably rank you highly, right? So if you don't get into the programs you like, then you could still get this one. Interview with the programs you like before you accept. See what kind of vibe you get from the PD or the interviewer. If they are telling you they would love to have you, then don't accept. If they don't seem that enthused, then accept. Any program is better than none, right?

Thank you all! This is not the worst program ever (it's a friendly community hospital, but not great chances for fellowships after that), but a few of the others I have interview with seem to be better and don't usually offer prematches. My understanding is that this program may offer more prematches than actual spots, so it's kind of first come-first served, so you have to decide fast, and some of the other interviews I have are even in January. I tried to reschedule them earlier, but I succeeded to do so only with one. I have 4 more interviews within the next 2 weeks, and I guess I'll have to decide before I go to the rest of them. I wonder how can I convince them to keep me among their preferred candidates and still give me more time. Thank you again!

hi acmd, i think i have exactly the same prob. when i went to that prog i liked it and he indirectly asked me for prematch and i said i need time and ill get back to him. the program is small friendly and in nice neighbourhood(difficult to find in NY) BUT AFTER THAT I WENT TO ANOTHER PROGRAM WHICH IS A BIG COMMUNITY HOSPITAL and is a very competetive program and obviously they dont offer prematches. i think i have a shot at this one cuz my interviews went well but still its a risk and i dont know what to do now. i also have few interviews from good community progs in january. so dont know if i should choose an average prog or take a risk.
