You go to the student health clinic for your annual PPD. Over the course of 48 h, it turns red. You cannot remember coming in contact with anyone who was positive for TB. You are in good health, do not have HIV, have never used IV drugs, have had normal chest X rays in the past, and have never had TB before. The induration is 11 mm, and you have checked it at least 100 times. From this information you present back to student health expecting to hear which of the following?

A. This is a positive PPD.

B. This is a negative PPD; come back in one year for your annual retest.

C. This is a negative PPD; come back in one month for a retest.

D. This is an equivocal PPD; let's repeat it now.

E. This is a positive PPD; please remain here while we call the CDC for containment.

Since there's no h/o any exposure otherewise and never had anything before, ..........then the induration of > 15mm is taken as positive if iam not wrong...........and here, I have 11mm induration ..........
so, the answer wud be..........b. negative PPD, come back in a yr for retest........

induration >10 consider positive regardless of the bcg vaccination, and country of origin.
induration >5 is positve only in hiv positive pt
As no bcg is given in usa induration not redness >10 is surely consider positive
so my answer is positve ppd with no active disease,

well smitha is right bout it being >15mm to be positive but since the question was addressed 'you' if that appears in USMLe like that, it means maybe u r a health care worker(doctor) so it should be positive if >10mm in health care worker
