i believe, although im not entirely certain, that its a bystander affect. meaning, the liver trys to rev up the production of albumin and other proteins lost and at the same time the production of the lipids go up. sorry, thats all i know. :?

I don't think there is a clear phys explanation to this phenomenon, part of it is due to loss od oncotic pressure, and attempt of body to replace some pull to vascular fluid.

Hyperlipidemia is common in nepherotic syndrome but the underlying explaination is quite complicated. In some patient it is the result of increased VLDL, LDL and decreased HDL. While in some others, it's because of the decreased lipid usage. These come from the big 'robbin's pathology'. Hope that it helps.

the reason is that due to the protein loss, there's decreased production of lipoproteins which are used to carry lipids in the blood.

Dr. Hussam are you sure there is decreased production of lipoproteins? because as far as I know it is vice versa. please elaborate. Thanx

Nephrotic syndrome----> Sugar loss----> Decreased energy resources--> ----> Glycolysis-----> Fat mobilisation-----> hyperlipidemia. and Protein loss----> Decreased oncotic pressure --- leads to ---> 1. decreased VLDL clearance ( hypertriglyceridemia). 2. increased hepatic productionn of lipids ( apoprotein B lipoproteins).
