I disagree with such a racist remark. I am an asian working in the UK. I never had any problems. As long as you are good enough you should be fine. Besides.... whats wrong with preferring owns graduates over some IMG? They know the system much better then IMGs. How easy is it for an AMG to go & seek medical training & money in another country??
Inspite of being of Indian origin, I had SO much trouble to try & get a place in a medical school in Mumbai... & HAD to basically leave as there was no way I could have got to do post graduation there....just because I was from UK !!!!!!

inflammatory remark. Look at the diversity in US programs. So many different people from different origins and ethnicities. I think it is one o the best things about being here in the US.

Of course that diversity is all made up of US grads. Once you get to IMGs, being an IMG is a big negative strike against your name. But as drkigs said, I can only blame them so much. They are obligated to take care of their own grads before IMGs, otherwise, IMGs with high scores would take over all the programs here. If you have good scores, if you have good USCE and good US LoR you will be fine! Without the USCE, good scores are only so helpful. Two different program directors have now told me they really need to see that since IMGs with great scores often do poorly on the wards, because they can't adjust to the US system. Plus, they know IMGs tend to sit at home and study for several months to get a great score when US grads study during school or at most take 1 month off to study. One fact IMGs have a hard time understanding is that scores are just one part of your application. It is not like my country of India where your enterance exam score is all you need to get into a program. The US system is not like that at all. True, they do use your scores to screen you (esp us as IMGs), but after that, LoR are VERY important, as are transcripts and your interview.

Look is it fair IMGs have such a hard time here, no. But at the same time, would it be any different in any other country? I feel the US is one of the most open countries in terms of allowing foreign grads to come here. The UK may be the next best. Otherwise, Europe, Canada, Australia, it can be done, but is very difficult. The US is much easier than that.

i m img too not white! what u lectured me my friend is that US is so nice n stuff to allow imgs in ok well i agree , when u step outside the wards n see th eoutside world , go to shoppin malls etc etc talk to white skin people u FEEL THE COCKINESS . U FEEL THEY DONT WANT U THERE. in hospital well they need ur help. but outside my friend u see the real US .go to texas where kkk is n u feel the real white supremacy. DINT U HEAR TOMMY HILFIGER S COMMENTS . HE SAID " ALLL MY CLOTHES N PERFUMES ETC I MADE FOR SUPERIOR WHITE PEOPLE, IF ONLY I EW THAT BLACKS , ASIANS, HISPANICS GONNA USE IT TOO I WOULD NOT HAVE MADE THEM" . WELL THIS IS THEIR COUNTRY SO U THINK THEY THEY WILL BE TOO HAPPY TO GIVE U THE VERY BEST OF ANYTHING?? N REGARDIN INDIA ITS A BEAUTIFIL COUNTRY EXCEPT THAT THE PEOPLE CANT BEAR THEIR OWN BROS N SISTERS. THEY CANT WORK TOGETHER.
ONE DAY U WILL AGREE TO THIS...

With all due respects to your thoughts & frustrations noelle... I did not mean to upset you. What I ment to say was that it is a tough world ... not only USA but everywhere.. Like you & me ...all other IMGs need some words of hope & positive attitude.

As far as Texas goes.... if you ask normal americans.. even they arent the biggest fans! I have lived in Pittsburgh, NY, Chicago, Philadelphia... not as a tourist or as a doctor but as a normal person on an average for 2-3 months each... & I have never felt second due to my not so "white" skin colour. I haev found the normal people very friendly. I do know that there is always that stupid racist moron who would want to look down upon us....but I personally think that it is his shallow brain & pity him to be still in the 1800s !! I dont know how many normal Americans would subscribe to his ideas.

As far as lil tommy goes... you can guess by his sales since that comment.
I myself, an avid shopper.. dont buy any of his clothesline..also the lone jacket I had, I have binned it.

Also, I love India as I was born there & did Med School there, I grew up in UK.....been to USA n number of times...I must say, I have been around many places & have experience of being accepted in all these & of all USA certainly didnt seem the most racist especially when it was founded by immigrants in the first place!.

I wonder what the AMGs would have to say as this is an entirely anonymous forum & everyone is welcome to air their thoughts.

In nutshell, Noelle....I do agree with you that it is difficult as an IMG to break into the US system but then it is not fair for those multitude of Americans to be blamed for something they havent done. Glaring example is BBB.. who I presume is "white" (eeeeegh..cant believe I am using that term) & is helping us IMGs. Besides.......... the more difficult it is...take it up as a challenge & get stronger & fight harder...cover up for our "non white " skin with dedicationto work, sincereity, hard work, more knowledge.

Trust me Noelle, I am your FRIEND & am not lecturing you but just casually opining on your post.

All the best in your quest...cheers!

All right Noelle, I don't want this to degenerate into a shouting match, but listen, there are two sides to every coin. I am an anglo-Indian and very very fair for Indian standards. If you saw me on the street, you would not think I was Indian. There is and was plenty of discrimination in India against me. You would have to have seen it to believe me, unless you are a SC/OBC. It is something fundamental in human nature to classify people as "us" and "other." I can attest it happens in India where they thought I was white, here in the US they think I am middle eastern. Anyway, I think everyone should marry someone from a different race until our children are all so confused they can't have stereotypes. I mean, really, Indians show their own sad colours when it comes time for an Indian to marry someone from a different community or "gasp" religion or race. Trust me, coming from a mixed background, the US was much more accepting than India was to my parents and me. Just my two cents which I know you don't want to hear. And I live in Texas: big cities nice, rural areas are like you said.

perhaps the way to look at it noelle is not whether one is white or not but rather is one american or not....americans look down on almost anyone in the world...no one is good enough for them it seems hence all this al queida & french bashing that goes on. even in the un look at how america dominates & looks down on others blatently.....i remembered going to mgh to meet the pd a few weeks ago...he's indian which is ironic because the first thing he said to me was....we do not take fmgs.....tells a lot & goes a long way...

I have white skin and 99 in Step 1, and here I am, left out in the cold and without a blanket. Say, piggy pink instead of white, and American. Not Hispanic, Eastern European or whatever. After the 9/11 incident, all foreigners are unwelcome in this country. Sorry!
