testosterone levels are decreased in older persons. so you expect less DHT to be produced .the question is why BPH correlates with old age ??

Excellent q baby:{excuse the excitment}

1)The transitional zone is estogen sensitive/ the peripheral zone is
androgen sensitive.
2) Transitional zone is where BPH usually arises/ peripheral zone is
usualy where CA usually arises
3)The point:Although testosterone is decreased as a man ages
DHT levels are increased even if it wasnt some say DHT is
10 times as potent as testosterone!! DHT binds to prostatic DNA
and causes prostatic Hyperplasia. The hyperplastic effect by DHT is augmented by estrogen, which appears to function by induction of androgen receptors, and therefore this hyperplasia occurs in the portion of the prostate that is particularly estrogen -sensitive.
**The strangest thing is that DHT increases with age-that why Im beginning to lose my hair**
Also this term BPH at one point was a misnomer, what happens as we now
know is benign prostatic hyperplasia(increase in # of cells!)
Anatomically its branched tubuloalveolar glands and corpora amylacia
which may calcify and increase in# with age. Two ways to retard this may be to consume low fat diet and have sex as much as you can.
