What is the net energy yield from a molecule of glucose in terms of number of ATP? Post your answer with calculations. Thanks.

hi, when one molecule of glucose enters glycolysis it releases 8ATPs +pyruvate (under aerobic conditions) and Lactate+2ATPs (under anaerobic cond) i m expleining only aerobic here: =Fr-1,6 bis phos gives DHAP+GLYCERALDEHYDE-3P but DHAP is changed into glyser 3-p when energy is required so everall 2 molecules of glyse 3-p participate in glycolysis now: 1) glyser 3-p ====1,3 bisphosphoglycerate (this reaction give NADH so actually 2 NADH as 2 molecules of glyser 3-phosphate r there and 1NADH=3ATPs so over all u get 6 ATPs at this level). 2) now when 1,3bipphospho gly======3 phosphogly(this gives an ATPs again double it as 2 molecules r involved). 3)phosphoenol pyruvate====pyruvate(again 2 atps but these r not counted in net result coz glycolysis also consumes 2 molecules of atps in the beginning). SO NET RESULT IS"2 PYRUVATE MOLE +8 ATPS" upto the level of glycolysis. when Each molecule of pyruvate changes into acetyl CoA it gives NADH and CO2. when this Acetyl CoA enters kreb cycle Each molecules gives 12 atps(3NADH+FADH2+GTP). 1NADH=3ATPs,1FADH2=2ATPs, GTP=ATP. hope u get it now
