I believe its 1:3000. 1:300 would make it extremely common.

  #5

Yes, thx must have been a typing error. I never heard of any disease being 1 in 300? Th lowest ratio Ive heard is Downs at about 1 in 800(as I remember)

Sickle Cell is more common. 1:400.

  #7

Do you have a reference for that.??????????????????
{SC is only in a limit population Meditereaen and Blacks-most of the guys on this forum probably wont go for that ratio!!} Im talking about absolute ratios, not a particular ethnic group or groups.

i didnt know this was going to upset you this much

my referrence is First Aid. and yes, i realize its only in the black population.

Sorry -Its just that step 1 is very meticulous:Having said that.
Even in the U. S. the ratio in the black population is closer to 1 in 600!
World wide the Id say the ratio is probably higher! There is an old saying :
"You can make statistics say anything", so as MDs we have to be aware of this and be able to synthesis, process and communicate the correct and the incorrect information at a fairly quick pace!!{I believe thats how USMLE likes it}no
excuse.
