let's go one step further... which is the mechanism that makes propionic acid glucogenic ??

Hi, I'd like to add something here. I searched the internet and found ongoing research in regards to the effects of propionic acid on gluconoegenesis. And the conclusions were yes. there are positive effects of propionic acid on gluconeogenesis. But the research was on bovine/equine hepatocyes in-situ. I don't know if we can deduce the same for humans too. However i understand that propionyl CoA can be gluconeogenic. It enters the citric acid cycle at the level of succinyl CoA after conversion to Methylmalonyl CoA. It can later become a molecule of pyruvate at level of oxaloacetate after releasing a molecule of CO2. The rest of the reactions are almost just the reversal of glycolysis. Propionyl CoA is the end-product of the BETA OXIDATION of the odd carbon numbered saturated fatty acids. Its worth noting however that its the gluconeogenic amino acids that play a more significant role in gluconeogenesis than fatty acids. Please update me on the propionic acid. Thanks.

Correct! everything you say is correct my friend i agree 1000% with you it was a question that came to me in my mind while reviewing b oxidation of odd chain fatty acids and gluconeogenesis...and wanted to share it in the forum... propionic acid will enter TCA cycle through succinyl CoA and etc...as you wrote.
