What med is both neurotoxic nnd nephrotoxic??

I know they are nephro toxic but never heard of them being neurotoxic./

mjl aminoglycosides cause acoustic nerve damage isn't that considered neurotoxicity ?

what else do you have in mind ?

in FA they metion that polymyxins is neurotoxic and nephrotoxic.
and aminoglycosides causes ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity.
so is neurotoxicity and ototoxicity same thing. :roll:

I think neurotoxic means having to do with all nervous tissue whereas ototoxic is limited

hey my friends,
the ototoxicity of aminoglycosides is NOT based on acoustic nerve damage, but it's due to accumulation of the antib in the endolymph and perilymph.

nevertheless, aminoglycosides ARE nefrotoxic AND neurotoxic as well, because at high doses the can cause neuromuscular paralysis, especially if they are injected straight in the pleura or peritoneum. (they inhibit Ach release in the synapse)
