Can anyone tell me the process on how to go about taking the NBME exam?....as far as cost, scheduling, etc
And when in the course of my studying would be the best time to take it?

Go to www.nbme.org and click self-assessment etc. Two exams are available, at $45 a pop. I took nr 1 one week before step 1 (which I took yesterday :-)), which seems to be how most people do it. I didnt bother with nr 2, but most people take that one as well.
