Relative to the normal values for parameters that govern capillary exchange, which of the following is the most likely cause of the edema that results from use of a venous occlusive tourniquet?

A) Decreased interstitial fluid hydrostatic pressure
B) Increased mean capillary hydrostatic pressure
C) Increased plasma oncotic pressure
D) Increased capillary filtration coefficient
E) Increased capillary reflection coefficient for plasma proteins

for me the answer would be b) Increased mean capillary hydrostatic pressure.

When using occlusive tourniquet we are changing the resistance in that specific point which will cause changes donwstream and upstream...

e.g.
--> __R1________R2________R3________ -->

If the tourniquet is on R2 (increasing Resistance)
Upstream R1: PRESSURE increases ---> which will cause Edema
Downstream R3: P decreases

The increased Hydrostatic Pressure in the capillary is what leads to edema.
