Hi I am an IMG with 76/75 on step1 and 2,graduated in 2000.I moved here after getting married to a US citizen. Pls anyone who knows, let me know can I apply and hope to get a residency in 2005? If so what are the best specialties to apply for and where can I get a list of programs and hospitals that may accept me or grant an interview. Please please help me if anyone knows anything. I am very depressed and dont know what to do. Please help.

hey, like someone else said somewhere, passing equals residency at least until proven otherwise..its just the places you will apply to that is the issue.you have to be broad in your application.dont be choosy about location or type of hospital.apply to community hospitals mainly but if you do have usce, that may go a long way.you can try to get that.about specialty i cant really say, maybe fp,peds or im.new york is very img friendly. about killing yourself, pls dont even consider that.what purpose will that serve?people kill themselves because they love themselves too much and as far as i am concerned that is just selfish.some hardship is not a credible reason for taking one's life.there is no new hardship in this world.for everthing you are going through, someone has gone through it before you.you aren't the first and you sure wont be the last.everyone has had their own setbacks,me inclusive(a very major one at that). take heart.dont lose hope.whats past is past.look to the future.all the best.

Hey bims, divchhabra, Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words. It means a lot to me. I was seriously thinking of ending my life. You have no idea how difficult it is for me right now.I was always top of my class in my country.I was the state topper with 100% marks.I graduated medicine with distinction .I dont know what has happened to me.cant explain. But like u say I think people have been in worse situations than me and ending my life wont be fair to all the people who love me and stand by me even today. I am going to fight and get into a residency and prove myself again. What is USCE? Thanks again for your kind words and encouragement)

I loved bims statement which is .....all those killing themselves are SELLFISH losers! When something little challenging comes up then they get soo down on themselves and sellfishly desides to finish the whole problem for themselves without even thinking over it! .....becuase they think the end has come....becuase they are soo self centered....soo tight on everything...oooh just whatever. Thanks bims pointing that out loudly....so people like me can learn! hahahahah that was the absolute truth....i just loved it! To Hopeful...... are you serious you really were thinking about killing yourself becuase you are couldn't get into a residency in the US?????? are you out of your mind???? not getting into residency in the US is NOT THE END OF YOUR LIFE!!!! Oooh please don't even say you thought like that! You are going into residency to get paid well and with that money you gonna have desent life....that's all.... you are not getting into residency be ALIVE! You are getting a job to get money for your life.........For Christ's sake NOT FOR TO BE ALIVE.....well anyway...i am sorry if i sound rude! But please don't talk like this! ......well i better stop here otherwise i am just gonna crush this keyboard..... Have a good one!

hi,hopeful.i'm glad i could be of help and encouragement.i have been in that situation too of once being the best academically and later falling backwards in my positions.it happens to the best of us.you shouldn't belittle yourself because of it.i realized it doesnt make me any less special than i already am just because i dont come first. USCE means u.s clinical experience, like working in an externship, observership etc.it can make a difference cos you have already worked in the american system and you can get american letters of recommendation.even without it you can still apply.but do so quick cos time is going.dont forget even if you dont match, you can scramble.and assuming all that doesn't work you can do the next match and while waiting you can get your USCE.remember,no one is racing with any body at this stage in life.God sets you up right in his own time.take care and all the best. to elm, thanks for liking my post.

there are plenty of programs that value other things besides your score... i know, because i have an interview next week at one of them.. my scores are not much higher than yours, yet the program is at least interested in meeting me..whatever your other strengths are, make sure you emphasize them in your personal statement and interviews..
