well i havent the foggiest idea what is happening but i can understand how frustrating that must be.from what i see you have done everything possible you need.with scores like that they shouldnt even look at anything else both in university and community hospitals.i think you should start calling the programs immediately to ask about the status of your application.

I did.... but they're either saying....
well... we're still in the process of reviewing.. after we got the dean's letters....
ornic eough they do check my status... and they wld either say...sory u haven't gotten an interview... or it says still pending.... or ur on hold along wiht a lot of other qulaified applicant...
one funny thing... the first program that rejected me...turned out to have not even seen my scores... the usmle transcript....is the last to download..

Hi all....that's true delutional......some programs don't even bother to look at IMG's applications...... since they are not interested in IMGs...why waste time! So have to be very carefull where we apply less you have some connections with the programs! Sorryy to hear your situation ...but i even sorry for myself more becuase my darn score is faaaaaaaaar less than yours :P ....that should make you at least little better huh?

Dear colleague, from what I gather most programs are looking for the best candidates (and you surely are one of them!!!) no matter what nationality as long as there will be no communication problems.

There are some programs like Harvard etc that pick their residents straight from med school and only with strong references from local professors.

Sometimes there are boards that meet after the application deadline and choose applicants for interviews. So you probably still stand a very good chance!

There are sites on the www where you can find institutes that will sponsor your visa. Most sponsor only J1, but some will sponsor H1b. These lists are not always complete despite coming at a cost and some contain programs that have additional requirements not listed. I got one of these for 50 USD that was not the best. Arizona surgical Mayo program for example only sponsored J1 visas in the document but required USMLE step 3 scores to sponsor you (not listed). As far as I understand foreigners cannot take the Arizona step 3 unless you already are a resident in that state (I am not totally sure about this though)... pretty limiting!

You still have time to apply and as you must be extremely attractive to any program with an open mind and a focus on quality, you still stand a chance! I think applying widely is good! Do not limit yourself in only applying to FMG friendly programs!

Keep applying widely! Good luck!

I'm sorry to hear about your situation but what our collague said

some programs don't even bother to look at IMG's applications...... since they are not interested in IMGs.

is completely illegal, probably those programs directors are not fully aware but for your reference this is what the section 102 of the 1992 Federal Health Professions Education Extension Amendments (PL 102-408) states:

Graduates of Foreign Medical Schools.- The Secretary [of Health and Human Services] may make an award of a grand, cooperaive agreement, or contract under this title to an entity [including a medical school] that provides graduate training in the health profession only if the entity agrees that, in considering applications for admission to a program of such training, the entity will NOT REFUSE TO CONSIDER AN APPLICATION SOLELY ON THE BASIS THAT THE APPLICATION IS SUBMITTED BY A GRADUATE OF A FOREIGN MEDICAL SCHOOL.

I hope this can be helpful to all of us, we as a FMG have some rights.
