hey guys I was solving the mcqs in javetz book and couldnt follow this one

Penicllin is a hapten in both human and mice . To explore the hapten carrier relationship a mouce was injected with penicilling covalentlly bound to a bovine serum albumin and at the same timewoth egg albumin to which no penicillin was bound. Of the following which one will induce a secondary responseto penicillinwhen injected into the mouse one month later?
a) Penicillin
b) Penicillin bound to eg albumin
c) egg albumin
d) Bovine serum albumin

I think it is b
heptan needs another protein to stimulate a reaction every time so it cant be a
c and d cannot induce response aginst peni. unless bound to it so they are ruled out

hmmmmm, actually when i was doing the mcqs I thought the same, :?: but to my surprise and may be yours the answer is D
can anybody justify this answer, or they might have printed the answer wrong in the book :P
thanks for replying

I'm not sure of the answer myself....anyone knows??

penicillin serves as a hapten=1epitope. the bovine serum albumin serves as the carrier protein and provides more epitopes. when injected together first time the antibodies produced would be for both penicillin and bovine serum. second time when bovine serum is injected there would be specific antibodies for it.
