For starters Ill do half of this in the AM and the other half tonight:

You have to know that Nominal means this , that, or those eg. subjects or treatment regimens
Ordinal is rank order eg Olympic medals, rank order in med school
Interval -quantitative with mean median and standard deviation eg. height
weight, B.P. {I will return}

ANOVA-remember it uses at least 1 interval and 1 nominal variable, it is used for 2 or more groups.{ for example comparing usmle test scores at 3 diffrerent schools}

t-test-uses only 1 interval and 1 nominal variable, used only for 2 groups
{eg.comparing boys with same sex siblings more likely to have increased B.P.s}

chi square- uses only nominal variables- any # of groups{eg comparing those who do and dont eat meat with the carcinogenic affects of meat}

Ria that was a good q/but for starters I hope this helps

Interval groups is gradation(exact differences among) has to do with quantity for example could be drug dosage, height or weight.

interval deals with numbers.. when you can put something in 1st 2nd, or third place. (even bp, when you have numbers it is interval)

nominal deals with things that can't be ranked (like males vs females, elephants vs giraffes)

Ok THANKS ALOT really,I think I get it now.SO you mean to say that whenever there is an interval Question(ie quantity) then either we can do t-test(if 2 or less things are being compared)or wecan do ANOVA( when more than 2 things are compared) and chi square is for nominals only.
IS that it?
THANKS ALOT TO mjll and adeelmd.

I think you have it. Just remember t-test is 2 variables- 1 nominal and 1 ordinal. grin

mjl1717 u explain it very nicely.

but i didn't understand this( Just remember t-test is 2 variables- 1 nominal and 1 ordinal).
u said before t-test-uses only 1 interval and 1 nominal variable.
i m getting confuse.
pls expalin me.

I cant do it without adeelmd. Sorry you are right because in this 3 different test discussion we DID NOT uses ordinal at all. t test is 1 interval and 1 nominal variable. My mistake(typing too fast)
