hello i am a final yr medical student from india ... how advisable is it to take usmle while in india ? i hear many students opt for a course in public health or microbiology in order to obtain a visa and then apply for usmle ... that is adding two yrs more before they really get into the residency programme . students who have applied for visa after giving their steps have been rejected outright . is there a way out ? :?: also i do not want to be financially dependant on my parents for the same ... if any indian imgs know of educational loan facilities or scholarships and requirements for the same , please do let me know . also how does research help ?

i completely agree that these are the various ways to get to the states: visit, student, marrying a us citzen/greencard holder, etc... i find your best bet would be going as a student because even from the university, you'll be able to get a job (library, cafeteria).... also note, being an indian you have a higher chance than others to get to the states (visa are given on political ties with your country w/ the US)
