i also chose IgE since it is type I hypersensitivity. but the correct answer is IgM. "the first immunoglobulin produced in response to any immunogen is always IgM. This is because of the sequential transcription of the DNA coding for the immunoglobulin isotype genes. It is not possible for any other immunoglobulin to be made first. IgG, IgA, and IgE can only be produced as a secondary response, i.e., one that follows the primary IgM response." (kaplan online qbank) is it true? even for type I hypersensitivity? i am quite confused now.

I remember this question, and I can't believe I still chose IgE, my memory is leaving me. At any rate, I believethe reason is the first line in your explanation. The question specifically asks for the FIRST Ig produced, not the Ig responsible for the reaction in a bee sting, so we should just look at the wording. IgM is always the first response in an acute infection and IgG in chronic.
