for chewing tobacco caused oral squamous cell carcinomas, does lower lip has higher occurrence than tongue?

  #2

I don't think so.....usually people who chew tobacco 'hold' the tobacco in the mouth irritating the mucosa. The lower lip SCC is more due to UV radiation as the lower lips are exposed to the rays.

it is one q from kaplan online qbank. the answer for the chewing tobacco is lower lip instead of tongue. but i remember from goljan high yield or somewhere said the highest occurence is sides of tongue. so i am quite confused now.

malaysian is right...scc from chewing tobacco ocuurs more on th tongue and sides of cheeks than the lower lip....the lower lip is affected by
uv radiation
or smoking tobacoo using a pipe...i think thats waht the qbank must have meant..i think its a misprint

maybe i didn't fully understand the original q. the original q is as following

"which of the following locations is most likely for the development of carcinoma in a 32-year-old baseball player who has chewed tobacco for 15 years?

a. floor of the mouth
b. lower lip
c. tongue
d. tonsils
e. upper lip"

so is it because the q also mentioned baseball player. means lots of sun exposure? therefore sun exposure + chewing tabacco two causes make lower lip the choice?
