Hello everybody! Inspired from the diary writers in this forum, i also thought i should write this diary to keep myself on track. As i want to make myself fully devoted to studies in next couple of months. Thanks Niti ,kirnandi ,MLF ,moctopod ,pinkangel ,bm ,ahdy ,namf ....and lot more with their daily diaries for inspiring me. What i have done till now ... Did kaplan video course Read kaplan lecture notes thoroughly 1 time Did neuronatomy from high yield. heard Goljan patho lectures once. Thats it! what i want to do? I havent touched FA which is highly rated by everybody. Just bought few CD with q bank. want to do kaplan, BSS & NMS. But for now i am confused. I think with my second revision i should do with kaplan qbook. As i think i am not good with my theory yet. so how many questions everybody is solving/day? I am doing immuno for now ,but will do virology also for tomorrow's chat . My plan of revision is STARTING FROM THE WEAKEST IMMUNOLOGY - 2days MICROBIOLOGY - 2days BIOCHEMISTRY - 2days GENETICS - 2days MOL BIOLOGY - 2days ANATOMY - 2 days PHYSIOLOGY -2 days PATHOLOGY - 4 days PHARMACOLOGY - 2 days BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE - 2 days so it comes 22 more days for revision on paper. But i may lose some time in this week because of diwali. At the end of each subject quick revsion with FA. I will listen goljan lectures everyday 2 hrs. And at the end of revision of each subject i should solve qbook questions. So i will devide it as 50 que /day. At the end of this revision,i will start with kaplan q bank ,NMS, BSS CDs. How much time does it take? Is my schedule realistic? Still i want to keep it tight.or i tend to become a slow turtle. Any suggestions are welcome!

Hi Krushna, It's great to read everyone's daily diaries. I think it's a smart way to keep track of your progress as you study for Step 1. First of all, congratulations on finishing the most important groundwork for your studies. Now comes the revision part. I agree with starting from your weakest subject first. Make sure you cover pathology and physiology thoroughly during each revision. During my studies, I have been doing Kaplan Q bank everyday to supplement the topics I studied that day. This may be helpful in getting important themes drilled into your permanent memory instead of doing q bank at the end of your revision. Everybody's studying methods are different, so this is just a suggestion. Q book questions are good too, but getting your pacing down with the computer format of the exam is essential. One pitfall I faced with my past attempts was exhaustion toward the end of the exam. I didn't do enough sets of hour long, 50 question blocks to build stamina. This is another reason to incorporate Q bank into your early stages of revision. You'll also get instant feedback as to what you're strengths and weakness are while you are revising your material. Another strong point about Q bank is that you get to practice integrating all the subjects that you've learned. Studying 1 subject and doing the corresponding questions in the Q book is good, but it will not help you to start thinking the way the USMLE test writers want you to think. This is where your plan for listening to Goljan everyday is a great idea. Do as many pathophysiology questions as you can with all organ systems involved. This way, you will get to see how micro and pharm are incorporated with renal, cardio, and endocrine systems. I think this was the reason why I didn't pass on my previous attempts. I didn't understand the way test writers wrote the questions. In a nutshell, I just didn't get it. It's important to know each subject individually, but what will get you a passing if not stellar score is knowing how to integrate everything into one. That's why pathophysiology is such a highly stressed topic on the exam. Goljan talks about it all the time in his lectures. Thank God the kind people on this forum told me about this man. He's amazing. I also use First Aid with each subject that I study from Kaplan so I can pay extra attention to those topics that are extra high yield. I make a star next to those topics in my Kaplan lecture notes and read through those very carefully. I am also a turtle when it comes to studying, but what matters is who crosses the finish line in the end. Slow and steady is better than burning out before the race is over. Great study plan my friend! Best of luck to you! Love, pinkangel

Some problem with my connection ,couldnt reply or write any thing.anyway..... Thank you niti, pinkangel, kirnandi ! Your support gonna help me for sure in these days. Slow and steady win the race..yes i remembered the famous tale of hare and turtle. so what i did today is ..I read 1/2 immuno from kaplan ..thats it. I couldnt solve questions today. As i told before this week i cant give my 100% because of festival thing. But no more excuses. This is only week i want to be slow & spend more time with relatives. It will finish on sunday. Kirnandi,i am going to add FA in my schedule. With revision of each subject ,i should read FA side by side and make notes into it. perfect plan! keep going everybody!

11/15/2004 hey i am back! Missed this forum a lot. I got problem with the internet conection and you know guys nobody comes to fix it during festival time. During that time i was just thinking about my diary! So i just made points on my notepad. So on 12 th ,i really did nothing.I mean i planned on doing things in the night but you know i was totally in festive mood.Slept just 1/2 an hr after opening the books. On 13 th ,i did better.I did 100 questions from kaplan qbank and i read anatomy from FA. On 14 th, watched a movie with sister and again hit FA ,this time chosen something light- behavioral sciences.and listened to the fav man - Dr Goljan for 2 hrs. I didnt opened kaplan lecture notes because patience and concentration was a main problem. As it takes a lot time to finish kalpan. But i found FA really good. That way i finished 2 subjects from FA.i think i should finish my first reading of FA fast. So todays goal was to do microbiology from kaplan. I was kind of slow on it.I am still on virology.I wish to finish webprep also again .He is slow but i found there lot of pictures and they are good for memory.and yes i want to do FA micro also.but that i will do tomorrow. ok then guys....good luck and God speed!

Hi Krushna! It is good to see you back! I hope you've had a happy Diwali. You're doing great my friend. Baby steps take you far. Keep going and continue on your track. I'm also trudging through Kaplan's Microbiology. I've already covered half the bugs in the series but it's hard to go back through so many pages in that book to review so many different bugs and their differences! I love Goljan! He is the man. Happy studies Krushna! You're doing great. Love, pinkangel

Hi Krushna Welcome back. It's good to see you online again, my friend. How is the microbiology going today? Yeah, with the celebrations of the last few days I haven't been as productive as I'd wanted to be either. It's a nice break though, and I good chance to get reinspired. Keep running, Krush! Moc

Hi krushna, Biochem is one of those subjects where you have to grin and bear it. So many cycles and enzymes to memorize! It is difficult to keep them all straight! You're not alone my friend. I have to review this horrid subject in the next 3 weeks before I take my exam and I already know it will be an unpleasant experience. Keep up the great work! Happy studying! pinkangel

Hi Krushna How are you? Good week? What's the plans for the week ahead? Yeah, tell me about biochem! My mind spins when I think all about all the cycles, protein interactions, etc that we hve to learn, but as long as you keep at it suddenly things start to make sense and you might (just about) enjoy it. Good luck! Moc

Thats true moctopod , pinkangel! I started listening t webpreperation again. I just love the way he tells it. So now everyday i listen to him for one topic. I decided one at a time will be easy for me to digest. After finishing the topic i take my notebook and i draw the cycles i learnt.Makes me feel confident.I am trying to write down all deficiency diseases on one page on my notebook. Will mark a chart of it. Anyway besides that i finished genetics & mol biology. Now i am onto pharmac,as i didnt read it everyday and i a forgettiing things. How to remember those anticarcinogens and immuno..guys? i keep foretting the side effects and bla bla which i think they ask in exam. its just ridiculous.... anyway keep going everybody!

I just wish i should write this diary daily. Today i have a plan to finish gross anatomy...well i didnt do anatomy well in my first reading guys. And i think i should give equal attention to it . I wish to solve 50 questions atleast everyday . I willl try to catch diary everynight also . So it should be twice a day. keep going everybody!!!

Hi Krushna! Don't worry about your bad days, everyone has them - me included! Your intentions are good and I know sleep schedules are very difficult to adjust! I am always having problems with going to sleep early and waking up early. It is 12:30 am here. I tell myself that I will go to sleep by 12 am and wake up at 8 am but that never happens. I am and always will be a night owl until I become a resident (I hope and pray that day will come soon for all of us!) Anatomy is a fascinating but exhaustive subject. I didn't do well with it during my first review many months ago. Don't worry, the more you read it, the easier it will get. Your plan is reasonable and everyday you're making progress. Keep going! pinkangel
