Thanks everyone for your well wishes and good thoughts. Kiran and Niti - I felt your good wishes this morning along with all of those who cheered me on from prep4usmle. Thank you both from the bottom of my heart. O Thank you Rofah2003 - I sent you a pm tonight - please check your inbox. I thought about all my friends on this forum and felt so supported even though I know them only by their screen names. We all have the love of medicine and the desire to become compassionate physicians in the USA regardless of race, ethnicity, what continent we call home, IMG, AMG, or year of graduation. How wonderful to have a place like this where we can exchange ideas, share our agonies and triumphs, test our medical knowledge, and most importantly, learn from each other - not only about medicine, but most importantly about life. When I arrived at my test center this morning, I turned off the engine of my car and said one last prayer to God - it wasn't asking Him for me to pass the test or to get a 99 - it was just for inner peace and for His will to be done. Only He knows my score tonight as I start the agonizing process of waiting for my results. <:OOO:> I was surprisingly very calm throughout the entire day. No anxiety whatsoever. Many of my questions were on anatomy - so don't ignore this subject friends! Something in my gut told me to watch the Kaplan anatomy tapes during my last week of enrollment. I am so glad I did as it saved me several times from certain death. Everything you need to know for the exam is in the Kaplan notes. Use First Aid as an outline and study guide while you go through the notes. If you know them cold, you will surely ace the exam. I know I didn't get a 99 or anywhere near that, but I am so glad that I spent 6 months of my life at the Kaplan center. It was worth every penny, endless cups of coffee, tears, sweat, and blood that I shed at that place. Regardless of what my score will be - I have no regrets. I promised you all that I would write after the exam. I am glad to be alive to do it. I have entered the tiger's den, played his game, and walked out of his den to tell you about my experience. Now starts the waiting and the praying. Hope everyone had a good productive day with their studies. I will post regularly - especially when that fateful day comes in February. Pass, fail, or sail, as namf said, I promise to let you all know. Love, pinkangel

Hi Krushna, Moc, and Kiran! How good it is to hear from my dear USMLE friends. I won't be abandoning my diary completely so I will be posting regularly, anything that is USMLE 1 or residency related will be vented here in my diary. As for my vacation days? Ha! Not really vacation - actually have much physical work to do now. My task is to clean my room and study room - a year's worth of piled up books, pencils, papers, etc. I am not looking forward to it at all. My room is actually the worst offender - it is difficult to describe what a mess it is! Both rooms have not been properly cleaned out since the last time I took the USMLE - last January, 2004. Scary thought. I made a deal with my parents that all this stuff would get sorted out once I took the USMLE 1. As for my other days - I got an opportunity to make a second visit to the residency program that I interviewed at on the 14th. It is really my first choice program and I am looking forward to going back to NYC to see what it is like to hang out with the residents and work in the hospital. I will be going on Feb 10, so I'll keep everyone posted. I just hope that I have passed the exam so I can make my dream a reality. I was asking myself, "Pinkangel, what is the use of going back for a second visit if you haven't passed the USMLE?" I recognized that as a negative thought and pushed it aside. WHAT IF I DID PASS? Guys, brace yourself for that fateful day if God has it in HIS plan. I will be posting some major verbiage that day. It may be another chapter in this novel I've created. I am preparing for another residency interview on Jan 26th in NYC so I better do my homework before I enter a different type of tiger's den. Thank you God for giving me these 2 interviews this year. I did not deserve either of them and yet you gave me 2 chances to match this year should I pass the USMLE. Isn't God cool? 8) The rest of the time, I will be thinking of all of you, making regular posts on the forum and following your progress through all of your diaries. All the best to you, my friends. Love, pinkangel

Hi mjl1717, Thanks for posting. Yes, I am glad it's over and I pray that I did well. Having you post an entry in my diary is meaningful as I don't see you post in people's diaries as much as you actively post on the subject forums. Thank you. You understand as much as I do why I can't blab about what was on my exam since you know that walls have ears and you never know who is reading my entries. Big brother is not only a money hungry entity, but a vengeful one as well. May God bless you in your journey to pass the step. Love, pinkangel

Your right I usually dont post in diaries as much as I participate in the forum: I felt yours was unique since: 1)From what you stated it appeared that you "really" have strong insight into the step and this medical arena. (Like myself) 2)Excellent grasp of the customs, language and socialization.(Much like myself) 3)A strong Kaplan supporter. 4)Great story teller 5)And most important the story like I said before is something most of us can relate to because it appears honest, sincere, and discusses the tortuosity of medicine. 6)Also, not all communicate well, a lot continue to take it for granted. I find that it takes experience. But you do it well. (At least over the internet anyway)

Hi niti, kiran, and all my friends on this forum, Thanks for all of your well wishes. I will carry them with me as I leave today for NY in preparation for my interview tomorrow morning. With each passing day, my anxiety grows - it is another day closer to judgement day - the day I receive the verdict after 6 months of hard work. I just hope and pray it will be the day I can bring out the champagne and breathe a sigh of relief knowing that I will never have to touch those USMLE 1 books ever again. :? Keep up your studies. I promise to let you all know how my interview went tomorrow. Tonight will be spent brushing up on their program and my application. Afterall, it's all about presentation and first impressions isn't it? I know that I am sincere in my desire to pursue my desired specialty. It is the only reason I applied to medical school. I hope I can convey that to my interviewers tomorrow. My thoughts and prayers are with you all - Love, pinkangel

Hi everyone- thanks niti, Moc, maryam, kaz, and the rest of my friends who read my diary. I came back from NY last night and slept through the whole night and part of this morning. I was exhausted from traveling - trains, subways, walking, more subways, and trains. I love NY and part of it is because of the massive public transportation system. You can go practically anywhere without a car for just a few dollars on their subways and railroads. I like the hustle and bustle of NY, the sights, the smells - ok not all the smells - but the roasted chestnuts and peanuts, the flowers for sale on the streets, the tasty smells of ethnic food wafting through the air. This is indeed the city that never sleeps. Yesterday was my interview at another residency program - 3 attendings including the program director interviewed me. They were all nice and interesting to talk to. I got asked that dreaded open ended question by one of them - "So, tell me about yourself." DUH? WHY DO SOME OF YOU STILL ASK THIS STUPID POINTLESS QUESTION? I understand it is the mother of all open ended questions and you can read into my response if you wish, but why can't you simply ask what you want to know? I humored this interviewer and told her my beginnings in this country as a 3 year old and gave a synopsis of my desire to enter into medicine in order to pursue the specialty that I was interested in. Interviewer number 1 was the program director - he looked a bit arrogant and scary in the program brochure but he was much friendlier and kind in real life. Kick me if you think I made a mistake but I told him this and he gave a hearty laugh and told me that he ought to get that picture retaken. We had a good rappoport and exchanged many ideas and thoughts about my speciality during our time. I liked him and told myself that this was a person with whom I wouldn't mind working with. Interviewer number 2 was another attending whose name I totally butchered. I was so embarrassed because I just couldn't get it right. The interview went well but I hope he has it in his heart to forgive me for screwing up his last name. At least I had the Dr. part right. :? I already told you about interviewer number 3 - boring conversation, nothing to write home about. She was dressed in a mink coat before and after the interview - don't know exactly how interested she was in the admissions process. The chief resident had on bright red nailpolish along with a lackluster smile. As she was about to enter the hospital to give me and another fellow a tour, the security guards gave her a hard time and asked to see her ID badge. She got all bitchy and told them that this was an interview tour - "just like pediatrics, surgery, and internal medicine!" Good grief. Does someone have a complex about being in this specialty? Why mention all the other specialties and create a scene? She didn't have her ID with her and was politely told to give security a phone call prior to tours of the hospital. "We've never had to give you phone calls about a tour." she hissed. Yikes. We were lucky to have gotten in. Both me and the other applicant gave each other looks of relief as we proceeded towards the main part of the hospital. The interview and tour ended at 1:30pm and I was glad to have gotten out of there ASAP. At least the PGY1's looked happy - the chief residents were snots who didn't seem to give a rat's ass about their specialty. They were the type of people I would refuse to shake hands with. Zero enthusiasm for their field and for the chance to become involved in the application process. I was praying and wishing that I could get into the other residency program that I had interviewed at on Jan 14th. There, the attitude of the residents and the attendings were different as night and day. Well, I'm back and my official 2 interview season is over. :? I am hoping that I can make a favorable impression on my first choice program when I go back for a second visit. Hopefully, I will have a passing USMLE 1 score by then and have at least a fighting chance to be considered for their rank order list. Keep studying hard my friends! You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Love, pinkangel
