which of the following applied tropically produces mydriasis without producing cycloplegia?
a. phenylephrine
b. atropine

a is the right answer. but i don't know why.

ya its a, cuz phenylephrine is a sympathomimetic which only affects alpha 1 receptors of iris sphincter muscle, without interfering with the ciliary body function, while atropine blocks parasympathetic receptors both in iris and ciliary body causing cycloplegia.
