:o Hi guys.I am a medical student from India and I just got my scores;99/261.Here are some practical tips: 1.study hard and dont get intimidated by how much your peers are studying.Avoid people who stress you out. 2.FOCUS ON PATHOLGY AND PATHOPHYSIOLOGY.Read BRS pathology,Goljans review of pathology and USE Robbins pocket book for reference. 3.The exam is not a balanced in the sense that all organ systems are not adequately represented. Some systems get more weightage and some less.Hence luck has a role to play in deciding your final scoreas it is a skewed exam. Anyways if you have have any questions for me do post them.

Great Score medgrad. Keep up the hard work! I just wanted to know how long did you study for the exam? And do you suggest that I should go through Pathology slides in the webpath? Good Luck for Step2!

medgrad, CONGRATULATIONS for nice score !! Your tips are really practical.I also came across with people who were full of negativism. So,I will say..also stay away from these kinds of people /study partners ! They are really waste of time and headach. For Physiology, which book you recommend? Thanks ss

Thanks.I studied for three months .Well after talking to several of my classmates ,I have reached the conclusion that the exam generally has 9 to 15 histopath and gross path slides. So doing webpath rigorously is a low yield endeavour. Why not flip through a path atlas b'fore the exam?

Hi. Thanks ss. I would recommend reading BRS physiology and reading Ganong for cardio ,pulmonary and kidney physiology.Pleade focus on the physiolgical aspects of disease processes/pathophysiogy.There ain't a single good review book of pathophysiolgy availble in my knowledge. But I didn't face much problem as I have already passed final examination and so have read Harrison for Internal Medicine.Another thing, ACID BASE DISORDERS ARE VERY IMPORTANT READ THEM COMPREHENSIVELY!

Hi Ria.Well I just surfed through some atlases in my institutional library.I would urge you to do some Qs from the CD accompanying the new addition of Robbins Pathologic Basis Of Disease. It contains some good clinical Qs .If you want to do still do Webpath don't do it entirely ,do it daily for just 30 minutes and you will become well versed with diagnosing histopath slides in a couple of weeks.

Hi! I am a medical student with hopes of getting some training there. What school did you graduate from? With all the information we are being fed in school, it's a bit hard to focus on details. Is everything getting more molecular during the exams? Thanks!

Hi, medgrad: Congratulations! Great scores. Also your practical tips are very useful. Could you please tell me the name of "Goljans review of pathology " and "Robbins pocket book" and where can I get them? Do you mean Goljian notes and audio or a textbook by Goljian? Thanks a lot.

Hi Sasi ,Iam sure that you are from a medical college in India.Do you have to pay 60 K to get training for Step 1?NO! just keep your cool and start doing your review books and catch hold of a senior for fundas.

Hi gaurav12! I took my exam from India. Yes , Kaplan notes are helpful. Well I have dropped all my plans about going to states for a residency after doing an observership at Women and Brighams .I cherish staying at the apex institution of India for a residency rather than going for a residency at some third rung medical school of US just for the sake of GOING TO THE US and money. There is good money in India also and one has the added advantage of a good social network. Anyways this is not a forum for soul searching .bye and all the best!
