Does anyone know if programs give out "courtesy" interviews? My bf has been doing postdoc research at a prestigious institution for the past few years. He has a Step 1 only in the low 80's. Taking Step 2 next week. He got an interview from this institution, but we are anticipating that he might not get any other interviews (only applied at University programs). He has received rejections from less prestigious institutions.

Yes, programs give courtesy interviews, but by that, I mean they are willing to accept applicants who are in-house, or have connections in-house, even if they don't meet the same selection criteria that they would otherwise use. I would recomend applying to non-university programs as well, just in case, but I know people at my own prestigious program who got residencies here based on their research ties. And they were below-par for the school normally. Remember, scores are one component of your application (a big one, granted). Research counts for a lot!

The above-mentioned bf has now taken Step 2CK and is preparing for Step 2 CS in 1.5 weeks. So far, has 6 rejections and 1 additional interview at a prestigious University program with no current IMG's. What kind of programs should he apply for in the next few days? More university programs? Good community programs? Middle tier to lower tier community programs? He has no US clinical experience, though he has some residency training in his home country. Thanks for any advice.
