hi guys, thankyou for such a great site! A little about me. I, an IMG graduated 3 yrs ago could not do house job as i got married and came to US. Now a US citizen with an infant, been a housewife for the last 3 yrs. I was thinking about starting a career and after extensive online research i have come to a conclusion. Once a doctor always a doctor Cannot take up any other job title. But at the same time i am also a mom and cant be too ambitious .The other thing is i wont feel comfortable in a hospital performing direct patient care as i did not do house job and was away from the field for three yrs. With all that being said, ThankGOD i am quite studious and hardworking so passing usmle step 1 2 in first attempt and good scores wont be a problem (sorry for i may seem too cocky but i never studied too much in my medical school and still passed every exam with very very good scores). So i found out that residency in Pathology doesnt involve any direct patient care so i am aiming for that. i am planning to take step 1 in may 2005. My question to you guys is Am i going wrong anyhwere ...do All the information i have is correct...whatelse can i do to enhance my chances and lastly Is there any other residency program that doesn't involve patient care (I gootta be honest i wont be able to manage patients). Any other option or advice for me because i know you guys know alot about GME in USA. I am about to register so plz reply if you think i am wrong anywhere above. Thankyou very much for reading such a long post. I Appreciate that...and May God enable ya'll to fulfil your dreams ASAP

Try to find at your library " Hpw to choose a medical specialty" by Anita Taylor. You will find useful information. Good luck! Mihaela

In this book one can find a lot about all specialties ( what are the competion, responsabilities, future, what kind of person can do a specialty or another, things like this). Unfortunately I wasn't interested in specialty without patient contact, so I didn't read more about this specialites...What I know is that there are a lot of options. It is up to you. Mihaela
