Could anyone briefly demonstrate the significance of MMPs in terms of cancer for me? What exactly are MMPs? They basically destroy the ECM, right?

Metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a group of enzymes that degrade extracellular matrix in a substrate specific manner. In physiological conditions there is a balance between the activity of metalloproteinases and the expression of their natural inhibitors (TIMPs). However, in pathological conditions this equilibrium is lost. cancers often have high levels of expression of MMPs and so have invasive potentials
