Characteristics of a bacterial capsule include: A. All bacteria have one B. It is composed of peptidoglycan C. It is an important mechanism for protecting a bacteria against ingestion by PMNs D. It is what causes the gram stain reaction

B???? or C??? cause all bacteria don't have capsule and u don't use gram stain to visualize

I would say C, because, the basicallus anthracis is not a peptidoglycan, but polypeptide capsule.

Sometimes on gram stains you can "see" the capsule around an organism because the immediate area around the rod doesn't stain. You have to focus up and down to visualize this. It shows up with smears of S. pneumoniae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Cryptococcus neoformans (the classic mechanism of an India Ink prep, where the India Ink butts up against the huge capsule surrounding the yeast cell). You can see it in a gram stain of C. neoformans also, but it doesn't visualize nearly as well as with the India Ink, and this yeast doesn't stain well with Gram stain.

*Ill attempt to eliminated the more difficult distractors: The gram stain rxn in gram +s is due to a thick peptidoglycan cell wall which contains glycine and teichoic acid--purple (more tightly crosslinked and retains the original dye) The gram stain rxn in gram negatives is due to a lipopolysaccharide outer membrane.-red.(outer membrane damaged by the decolorizer,*doesnt retain the original dye) That safranin counterstain is a pale red dye. *Capsules-most polysaccharides, B. anthracis-polypeptide, S.pyogenes- hyaluronic acid *Also peptidoglycan is either in the cell wall for gram+s/or periplasmic space for gram negatives. I rest my case.
