"MLF" wrote: Enterobacters have Three antigens. O is the Cell surface polysaccharide, so thats the answer in this case. K is the capsular antigen and H is the flagellar antigen. Its not a lipopolysaccharide, but just a polysaccharide of endotoxin. Look on page 185 of FA in micro, it explains the various antigens of this family. Hi Major antigens in Enterobacteriaceae group are : K antigen: associated with polysaccharide capsules H antigens: flagellar antigens important for the serotyping of Salmonella O antigens:are somatic antigens.Differences in the polysaccharide chain of the lipopolysaccharide ( LPS,endotoxin ) determine the type of O antigen. So,the right answer is E THANKS niti

"Dr. Hussam" wrote: O antigen is just the polysaccharide part of the endotoxin Yes ...this is exactly written in FA.. Endotoxin ( LPS ) is composed of 3 parts: 1) a polysaccharide core 2) O ( immunogenic ) antigen 3) and lipid A Not all endotoxins are equally toxic;toxicity is depend on str. variations of lipid A. O antigen is mainly one of the determinants of pathogenicity.

O antigen is not part of the cell wall. It belongs to the Gram neg outer membrane and it is a chain of oligosaccharides units so , I think the right answer is A
