Hello everyone, I have been following this very informative site for sometime. I have an interview next week 4 a peds residency and have been invited to have dinner with the residents. How important is it to attend these things? Is it ok to ask about the program or is it just a 'getting to know you' kinda thing?any tips bbb? Also, those of you out there who have attended interviews already- would appreciate some help. This is my first interview and i am a bit nervous. What kinda questions do they ask etc. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

can u tell me which prog. that is? is it in Maryland? Anyways......I had an opportunity to go to a pre interview dinner. It was a light affair......just small talk and I got a chance to meet the other candidates and check out my competition Be on your best behaviour....go with the flow.......be honest.... if u don't know whether it is appropriate to ask ?'s about the program ....simply ask (that's what I would do but I would appreciate it if somebody else also give their two pence on this issue) I can't reflect much on it since the one I went to was arranged with the PD and faculty , not residents. So best of luck. If u need more info. gimme your e-mail 'n i'll e-mail u .

bbb gave really good advice on interview somewhere on this forum. U won't be so nervous once u've had your dinner the night be4. Just be yourself , be confident , try to articulate your thoughts well......be sure of what your goals r in the future (if u r not sure yet thats ok too , just say so) ummm what else do u want to know.I'm new at this too but so far in the interview process I haven't had any gr8 difficulty (nobody has pimped me so far)... (by firing med. ?'s I mean). oh yeah this u probably know anyways.........try to gather as much info about the prog. from its web-site, freida, scutwork etc. and then "ask questions". hmm I guess thats all I have to say for now.

So far, all my interviews have been benign. Very low key easy going affairs. Remember, if they have agreed to interview you, they already think they are going to be willing to take you. Just don't be crazy once you are there. They don't ask any tough questions. Just smile and enjoy! And it does no good to check out the competition. You can't compete at that point.
